CLK 430
Hello guys

My Mercedes CLK430 has some rust underneath as the thick rubbery coating (maybe mastick) peeled off in some places causing moisture and salt to get in a start corroding the metal.

as a preventative measure for the future i was thinking to remove that sticky rubbery factory coating from the underbody and blast the rusty bits clean and then apply some sort of protective coating.

should i remove all the underbody factory sealant and apply smth else or similar? i dont know how is that stuff called?
or should i only treat the affected bits and then paint them?

i have por15 rust paint ? also have a tin of corroless....

any help will be much appreciated..thx

i dont know about using waxoyl for underbody, could be a good idea but i need to paint it first.....i think por15 over coated with chassis paint then waxoyl

Hi, had my clk430 fully undersealed in dinitrol and wax oiled by a chap in askern near Doncaster. He had it for 2 days, took the body kit off, wheels and all the plastic arch liners. Did a fantastic job I go back every year for annual check up. The chaps called Joe at Jr classics. Don't know where abouts you are but he's near Doncaster. Cost was about £400.

underseal never dries and stays tacky..im not sure if suitable to apply over bear metal.....i have also heard that mot testers are not keen on it .
my plan is to drop the subframe , fuel tank, and then scrape all the mastic off the underbody... and replace it with smth more durable as mastic can bubble and let it water and that was my cars problem..

i even found that the rear towing eye plate was rusting and then made a hole in the boot floor which required me to remove the top layer of steel and then with a chisel remove the spot welds..it is in a very bad corner

I decided after some searching to go for epoxy mastic...and to remove all old coating prior application of the new one, that's the advice I got from bilthamber...
