Mercedes e63 W213 all good things thread

Motorway run gets me 26mpg. I was thinking I'd get better than that but over 2 tons, awd, massive tyres means that's probably the best i can expect. The trip computer stats show a combined 19.8mpg over the last 6k miles (average speed 30mph i think). I ought to reset it and start again and probably drop a 1 month / 1k miles review.

Really impressive for an AWD, im sure i read somewhere its good for 29mpg 🙂.

So, does the E63S have the same M178 engine as the GTC/GTR?
There's a few advantages of the dry sump on the 178, the engine can be mounted lower on the chassis, so you'll get a lower centre of gravity. Also dry sump helps with ensuring there's less chance of oil starvation at the limit etc.

From memory the 177 fitted to the GT63s is probably the most powerful variant of the 177 with roughly 630hp/900nm (non hybrid) the GT black series is the daddy at 730hp/ 800nm with the M178.

I read the BS uses a different crank which is flat plane instead of cross plane. I’m not really sure of the advantages but apparently it doesn’t sound as V8 gruntty, not that I’d turn one down.😁

Aston martin were also using the m178 but yeah that GT black series, that's next level stuff. I think that's my number 1 on the wish list alongside the sls black series , but instead I have to fulfill my sports car ambitions in a rickety old rattley BMW 😭
