Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

B30001000007.920310.png

PART NO 112 SWITCH has part no A005451706 but I imagine impossible to get---- but should be interchangeable with most more modern kickdown switches. Appears to be mounted on some bulkhead/footwell bracket??

The vendor of the box (who sadly did not keep the bracket and parts) described it as a substantial bracket with switch inside an assembly. The box itself has cabling so there must be a connector as well.

Box number is 115 27119 0.1 just to be helpful!

I'd certainly consider fitting a suitable 722 (four speed switchable from a W201,W124 etc) may make a sensible upgrade? They're cheap, available and bulletproof too.

Beware the 'hand' of the starter before deciding. Boxes from 124 > wont fit earlier engines because starter on different side.

Definitely 1152711901. MB really do make life complicated! But I think if fitted to 116s the kick down arrangements ought to be similar.

The chap who sold me the box has some other bits from it he's invited me to rummage through. The downside of someone with like knowledge to me!

HOW ABOUT R1152711301 then? which is the same as
W1142701101 maybe R1152711901 is just a later version of same?

That will be A1152701901 Charles? which is what they call the 722.101 box I believe
other nos by analogy

1232700012
1162500605
1152507705
1162700996

Just to back up Graemes fine research I did a search on 1152711901 and it doesn't exist according to the EPC. xxx2701901 does however. :dk:

Trust me to have a chinese knock off w114 gearbox (probably bought from the same supplier as my non-existent radiator). Typical! :D

Not to worry Charles 115 271 19 01 is probably just a later revision of 115 271 13 01 which is the equivalent of A114 270 11 01 which is the gearbox number given in the MB EPC for the W114 250 CE. :thumb: Wasn't doubting what you said was just puzzled I couldn't pin down that number.:wallbash: Was there any indication exactly which model+engine combo the gearbox originally came from? You may have said this earlier in the thread and I have forgotten. Even then it's not always a reliable indication as unless the car's complete build history is known after 40 odd years it may have had the odd gearbox replaced along the way.:dk:

More taking the mick of the 'infallible' EPC, Graeme! It came from a 250CE automatic of low mileage so doubtful it has had any change.

Merc EPC generates many part numbers that often don't correspond with what's actually on the part. It probably only has about a 70% success rate, even with some of the newer models.

Charles, check the lower flange on the right side that the sump bolts to. Usually the box type and number is stamped there. Numbers formed by part of the actual casting process are not, as a rule, bona fide part numbers since the same casting can be used for several differing applications. eg, different models in the range share the same casting but have different internal ratios so will have different part Nos.

A quick EPC question. I'm trying to find out what kick down switch arrangements there are for the W114 coupe but entering my chassis number obviously doesn't help. The next question is, are there any components in common with a W116? Trying to maximise the chance of sourcing this before the car needs the gearbox decision.

It's a switch. Electricity enters and either stays or leaves.

I'll dig out the serial number tomorrow - currently one Citroen SM is in the way of the box, having moved the coupe out and put it on the other side of the garage. It is a box from a 1972 W114 250CE (complete with linkage etc) so I am hoping it is pretty much plug and play if I can get the correct kick down assembly. Given I have the correct propshaft too, I am disinclined to fit anything else.

Correct gear box for the car with rod (not vacuum) load control.

The vendor of the box (who sadly did not keep the bracket and parts) described it as a substantial bracket with switch inside an assembly. The box itself has cabling so there must be a connector as well.

Just a switch. Any switch will do. It's not a deal breaker in deciding gearbox choice. Do you have the electrical plug that connects to the gearbox (four or five terminal by the look of it - for kickdown, starter inhibitor, reverse light (presumably))?

Or have I missed something?
