Mercedes W114 250 Coupe - help!

One of the clips for retaining the cap has gone AWOL - only the part of it screwed to the dizzy was present. Other than that, all good. I'll lube it and slap it all back together tomorrow. Final check for mechanical advance will have to be by strobe with engine running, but it appears to be doing what it should. The shaft end play is only the drive dog rattling around.

I'll have a rummage in the engine parts bin for the other clip, but that sounds great. So the sleeve is free at last, and only the vacuum capsule needs finding. Many thanks!

You had spotted the tube's presence back on page#80 when you mentioned your dizzy being different 'below the D-Jet' part. But got it freed yesterday - to my surprise. I've cleaned it and will grease it so it cannot happen again.
I'll get it all back together and in the mail and when it arrives you can then decide to use it or go another route. If a capsule can be sourced (and probably can be) I cannot see any reason it cannot be reunited with its engine.
I made a blanking plate and my intention is to coat the D_Jet cam with grease (to protect from corrosion should it ever be required again) and the seal the plate with the same to keep moisture out. If you choose to refit the D-Jet points then only two screws stand in your way. Looks neater without that piece of redundant black plastic jutting out though.

Well, that is excellent news, thank you!

Colin kindly offered me a tube from his scrapped coupe, but clearly not needed now. Plenty of other things though!

Today I cleared all the boxes and parts in my kitchen into the vacated garage space. I can now actually move around.

Tomorrow, do a list of known parts and the sequencing of tasks for Simeon and D&M.

I've found some numbers on the capsule. On its arm to be more precise and the method of converting to a full Bosch capsule number as shown here >> 924Board.org :: View topic - distributor vacuum unit

The numbers are: 077 across the arm (nearest the capsule) and 351 lengthways on the arm which, according to the Porsche article should give 1 237 077 351 as the Bosch part#. But Googling it hasn't come up with anything. Maybe tomorrow...

My googling has produced similar levels of success. Lots of other ones available, about £40 before postage seems to be the norm.

I've left a query with Powerspark (who can provide units for VAG and Porsche cars) with all the info currently available which they should see tomorrow.
They must be available though. Or that guy selling complete dizzys wouldn't be able to.

It would appear a crucial feature is the length of that actuator arm appart from the spring strength--- altho too long an arm might be accommodated with a spacer/gasket on the mounting plate too short would be more of a problem.

Picture from an advert for a PFURX 6 distributor confirms the number on the arm. Verteiler PFURX 6 Zündverteiler Bosch 0 231 301 008 D | eBay[ sold ? :(]

For arm length we have MIG welder. For spring rate - no known solution!
(Almost as frustrating as the This Forum Requires You Wait 40s Between Posts message that I will encounter about ...now).

I am certain they are available, just not greatly advertised.

First post in a long time without a 40s message. Took over 40s to post though...

Perhaps Powerspark will oblige.
I'll give the guy I know in the parts dept at the MB Abz dealership a call tomorrow. He may, with luck, match it to a more recent MB model for which there is stock. He should, I would imagine, have access to all UK stock held across the dealerships. We only need one!

.

VIN# required for above.

Thanks G - but I will have to wait for CM to confirm it before I trouble my MB guy.
The problem as it presents is all the part numbers are Bosch where MB ones are required.
Powersparks are looking also (I'm not overly confident they will provide a new one though) and mentioned rebuilding the old one.

Sorry, been out all day, up to Simeon and D&M to sort out next steps on coupe, then elsewhere. Again many thanks to Bellow for such humbling assistance. Unless we know the correct spring I'm a bit iffy about rebuilding, but very happy to try Mercedes.

Original spring would be reused but a complete new capsule is still possible (not from Powerspark though) via MB.

Is this: WDB11402220009622, the correct VIN#?

Yes it is. My worry about the original spring is merely that of it getting old - the springs on the throttle are positively flaccid now.

Not rightly sure. I asked if they would need original capsule for rebuild and the answer was yes. Possibly the spring is replaced with new and the capsule body is the critical part but how to open and reseal it escapes me.
I'll provide Weirs (MB dealer) with the VIN tomorrow. They will then try and ascertain MB part number and check all UK dealers for stock.
