Misunderstood Youth of Today.

There are full jails.

The government uses private sector as a way of doing things cheaply.

Do it right - use the private sector for jails - but use the jails in India - or middle east. Somewhere where they have an understanding of what Jail should be.

I would recon we would reduce jail bills by a quater.

And reduce re offending rates.

Lol...

...Mate, if we used Jails in India alone, NO ONE would re-offend...ever. They kick you, punch you, beat you with sticks, throw things at you whilst you're in the cells. Singapore, and Saudi Arabia would also be a good place.

Just ask the irish lad who mooned at the government house in an african country.
things they get away with everyday here.
bet he is not loving his jail cell now

criminals are...................criminals!!!! and they should be treated like........................Criminals  That was not hard was it........ Why does our government not get it, other countries do?!?!?!

India
Singapore
Saudi Arabia
Brazil
China
All African Countries
Even the Americans lock you up in a hardcore prison for years for simple car theft, where you spend all your prison life being some elses 'pleasure friend'!

See why people fume.
I am watching street crime UK.
Three youths were arrested for vandalising a street and kicking over gates/fences. The police gave them a warning told them okay go on your way.
10 mins later the same policemen had to run over to the adjoining streets as the youths now broke into a yard and stole milk bottles off the doorstep.
after another warning and the youth agreeing to pay for the 3 stolen bottles, they were let on thier way again.

Why do the police complain of paperwork?
they have done a job they were supposed to have done once, twice and possibly will be doing it again this same night.
it is obvious the warning did not work first time.why do it again.
Softly softly approach for the human rights of offenders.

imagine how much manpower multiplied by 2 dealing with this set of idiots

loads of very vallied points in this thread. IMO we seemed to have removed the "detterent" factor for committing an offence. So the young man that I reffered to earlier in this thread came home from court a free man, not even an extension to his driving ban already in force (number two and still only 16) and shot of out on his motorbike. Won't be doing that again as the bike has been scrapped.
I do not advocate inhumanity to the point of lopping of hands but something needs to be done and it needs to be done soon. I do advocate the death penalty in certain cases. ie. policeman fatally stabbed whilst trying to arrest an individual, no doubt as to who committed the offence, put them to sleep.
I cannot agree that all children are born good. In most cases they are influenced by their parents or friends but there are many that are just perhaps mentally not quite right. I was discussing this with Kerry the other week and we know that the mother's brother of this young chap is a schitzophrenic and thought that James maybe has inherited some of his uncle's imbalance

Well done. The 80::20 rule seems to apply to many things in life.
One of my boys is now a policeman and inevitably he has to deal with many of these kids. As a balance he also helps to run a Scout Group, the same group to which he and his brothers belong. I don't thhink he would claim turning any kids round but the Scouts do help a lot of kids find a direction for their abundant energy.

uniformed organisations (cubs scouts guides Air and Army cadets ETC ) have always played a important role in our society.... and I'm glad to hear its still as popular as ever..... we would just pick up the waifs and strays who believed in anarchy..... but couldn't spell it when they sprayed it on a wall

What stopped me being a yob when I was young? A neighbourhood copper who knew everybody and everything, so the odds of getting caught were high. Secondly, my parents whould have expressed their displeasure rather more meaningfully than the forces of law and order....

Now we've replaced the local copper with video cameras, which always seem to be broken if they're actually needed (not stupid, these kids). Parents distrust authority (too busy targetting the soft easy targets, to bother with trivia like burglars) so they are caring less.

No idea what the answer actually is:(

Speaking as someone that in their youth invested a good proportion of their pay in the stocks and shares of numerous breweries, :D I would say that drinking has always been an issue but today it would appear that youngsters think it clever to attempt to drink a whole bottle of spirits and THAT was most definitely NOT something I ever saw. Beer if you were well off, or scrumpy if you were desperate. Another major thing that is often voiced,

"I'm bored and there is nothing to do!"

What a pathetic, whinging excuse. Give them a Youth Centre, skateboard park etc and they would trash it. Ask them to actually do something and you will get a blank stare. Of course there are some great kids out there, but are they the majority? They might be, but the minority makes the most noise and attracts the most attention.

How many members of this forum continually, habitually criticise the police? Is this a good example for our youth. If dad does it, then why can't I?

I don't think there are many forum members who habitually criticise the police -- many do criticise the laws they are forced to police. I think there is a big difference - take this thread - one of the problems is that the law will let down this man's family - when these thugs get brought to task - what will be their punishment... When I was young I was scared of the police - now the youth hold them with contempt - why? I don't think that they have changed that dramatically in their attitudes (some may have) over the years - but their powers have been eroded - television programmes portray them as drunks - letchers - "bent cops" - because like most things "bad news - sells". The trouble is that many now think this is the norm.... wrong.

I too as a youngster and at university - got drunk. Like you never on spirits - it was beer. Cant remember many drinking spirits in the Uni bar. Now we get "alcopops" - they taste like soft drinks - so are sold solely for the youngsters - aimed at those who want to go binge drinking.... I would double the taxation on these...

Raise the drinking age to 21? Not sure on that one.....how would it be policed? I.D. cards? In USA if you want a drink you need to show your I.D.(driving liscence)...so maybe that? I think raising the age will just drive it underground - prohibition never worked in the USA. Price will lessen the amount drunk in clubs -- but then all that will happen is that people will drink a lot at home before going out (not that they dont do that now).

Also lets bear in mind that the majority of kids arent roaming the streets - but it is a large number of "ferral kids" - and that just about encapsualates them - it is a lack of values at home - and until that issue is addressed nothing will change...

Sorry I climbed up onto a soapbox..

Hi Crockers,
agree with what you say. From what I understand the police are very often tied up with red tape. Change the drinking laws i.d. cards etc. I have no idea how old you are, I am 46 this year. Unfortunately the major problem is drug related. It is illegal and not licensed and therefore no amount of i.d. cards etc. will change matters. I drink and I smoke, straight cigarettes only. I do not touch or have ever indulged in what I believe people call recreational drugs. At a guess 80% of our population now take drugs and IMHO this is a big part as to the root of the problem.

Now that leads to an interesting question - should we make drugs legal? TAx them as per cigarettes and alcohol? Prohibition drove alcohol underground in the USA in the 30s - and crime grew off it.

I can see both sides of this. Legalise it - tax it and use the monies to help those and also subsidise the health service - other side - come down hard - shoot all dealers...

Ben Elton wrote an interesting book - High Society - light hearted but poignant..

Oh -- and I dream of being 46 again............lol

I disagree. The most widely used and abused recreational drug is alcohol, which causes violence and unpleasant behaviour, especially when mixed with other drugs such as speed or cocaine. Most police would much rather kids sat at home mellowing out with some weed than have to deal with them fighting drunk in the streets. Underage drinking and alcohol abuse is, in my opinion, the greatest threat to law and order, together with leaving the distribution of other drugs in the hands of organised crime.
I'm 54, for what it's worth, and teetotal.

How about bringing back National Service...?

1. Will "knock" some discipline to the yobs
2. Will teach them how hard life is, the hard way (being shot)
3. Will teach them what respect for authority is (also what consequences for non compliance)

The people we are talking about would NOT hack this way of life. There is no way they would have the moral strength to cope with the required discipline and within 4 hours they would be crying for their mothers, and threatening to sue the Ministry of Defence, the Army, the Sergeant Major, coprporal, chef, ships cat and anyone else that upset them. We deserve the culture we live in, we raise our children, we teach them how to behave, we teach them right from wrong.

Get the politicians/judges/lawers through National Service first! :)

Follow the link and feel free to add your name to item 2 should you feel it appropriate. No doubt nothing extra will be done. The fact that only 28 people have signed up to this petition makes me think that very few people know this site exists.
You need to be quick though, the deadline is today.

Addendum

Then again if you look at the trasport &infrastructure section we have decided what the really important issues are?

Unreal.

What is happening to this country?

It makes me think twice about having kids in the future. Why would I want to bring them up here if they are going to get shot?
