ML (W164) Comand NTG2 Problem

I recently purchased a 2008 Mercedes ML (W164) which came with the factory fitted comand system (Sat Nav), which I believe is called the NTG2.

However, over the last few days, 3 of the buttons have started to have an odd behaviour in that, they are illuminated when I start the car but then completely dim down to off withing 10 minutes or so. They still operate and work as usual but just don't light up.

Has anyone had this issue before or know if it can be fixed?

I have already spoken to the wonderful guys at Commandonline but they don't do this type of repair. They did give me details of a compnay they recommend and I have contacted them.

I am posting on here as I see lots of people replacing their Comand units with aftermarket ones (Android etc.) and am considering this myself (I have seen a really nice unit from Avin USA).

I just wanted to know if this problem is worth looking into and repairing compared to replacing the unit and was hoping someone may have had this issue so can advise.

If you get an android make sure you ask for recommendations on here as I hear that they vary greatly in quality.
