ML55 gear selector, 'stuck'

Hi, im really stuck on this
I cant get my ML in gear, stuck on the drive for a week now.
It did this once about 18 months ago. now it refuses to come out of P 'period.
Start's ok, but selector is locked.!! came out briefly last wednesday and i managed to reverse, but i stopped and selected drive, put in Park, wouldnt come out again,..
Any ideas

Not sure on ml but on w210 there is a little flap at the back of the gearlever slot that you push a screwdriver into and this allows you to select gears manually.

Either there is no power to it, or the lock solenoid is duff.

As indicated by Sp!ke, the power comes from the brake operation.

There is a small flap at the selector gate that you can push a screwdriver into to release it from park.

Ii suspect either the selector module has gone down or a brake light switch is faulty. Needs the codes read really.
