Mobilo life, warranty and non-MB dealers...

Dear all,

Appologies if this is answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it!

I am in the process of buying a W203 Sport Coupe 220CDI from a non MB dealer (but they have another franchise) who tells me that they'll service the car for me and this won't affect the warranty, however MB tell me that the mobilo life warranty will be invalid. I have a couple of questions then...

1. is Mobilo life worth having? (does it affect resale value??)

2. is the 'standard' 3 year warranty affected by non MB servicing??

Cheers

Han

I think (but not too sure, as I've not read the books properly) mobilo life includes the 30 year breakdown cover and possibly the bodywork warranty.

This is one I'm interested in too, as I bought the same car 2 weeks ago.

Hello,

I have a 2003 C180K. I bought it new from a UK franchised dealer. After 30K miles it is starting to rust on the underside, the suspension arms and through the aluminised exhaust mounts. The car has a full MB service history.

1. Dealer refuses to process under MobiloLife as a corrosion warranty claim as 'there is no perforation' of the bodywork (yet).

2. If your proposed car does not have a full MB hsitory then the 3 year warranty may still be intact, but the MobiloLife cover wont be (car MUST be serviced at a franchised MB dealership): any such repair will be at DaimlerChrysler's discretion and may be refused.

3. You will need the corrosion cover!

In my view MobiloLife is really not worth it: buy a fully galvanised car instead and you will sleep better at night.

I went though this question of MobiloLife a couple of weeks ago with Milton Keynes.

Any non-MB service invalidates the MobiloLife cover. BUT there is a cutoff date, before which the invalidation is permanent, and after which the invalidation can be reversed by a dealer inspection and the cover is live again. The date is 2003; I'm sorry I can't be more specific.

The standard warranty can be affected by non-MB servicing, if they decide that the service caused the fault. Example - an indie flushed your gearbox, your gearbox fails. Guess whether MB will honour the warranty.

mobilo is basically the roadside asssistance,

if you take your car out of the dealer network, you will lose the roadside assistance, but not the anti-perforation warranty - under the ec block excemption.
you will not lose your car warranty provided it is serviced under MB guidlines, so choose an indie of repute.

Mobilo is worth having, especially if you drive in Europe. Instead of being scraped off the roadside by a random bloke with a van you get someone working out of a MB main dealer with all the kit.

Also may care to peruse this thread in respect of the Service Plus contract which, as far we can see, effectively extends your warranty up to 6 years/120,000 miles and covers all servicing costs

I was not going to get involved in this issue but I believe the mobilio warranty does NOT come under the usual warranty terms and conditions. The three year warranty CERTAINLY DOES :)

There are numerous threads on this topic (are you trying to get me going :D :D ) Some members have had bad experiences with their claims and have tarred ALL claims as the same. There are numerous members who have had great experiences with it. You pays your money and take your chances.

If money is an issue then why not get the basic servicing carried out by an AUTHORISED agent (usually a main dealer) and all the other work carried out by a very reputable independant? (Just make sure the independant garage has the expertise to work on your specific model)

Good luck with the decision,

This is what I do, but some times stealer labour rate could be suprising cheap! For example they only charged me £22 labour to replace the steering damper - okay so there are only two bolts to unfasten, but without a car lift it is a bit tricky to do on the drive and getting it booked into an Indy to do it is wasting more time.
