Hi,

It appears TFL have come up with another way to screw more money out of motorists  :

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=16518

This, when the Police felt it necessary to bring only 3 charges last year (though they didn't bring any charges relating to the Blackwall tunnel closure fiasco).

I can understand the need to leave space for cyclists at traffic lights etc. but to get 'nicked' for putting your wheel in a cycle lane (e.g when passing an obstacle) is plainly ridiculous  . This will lead to more congestion and more wasted fuel (which is the usual result for every new road policy which comes out of TFL  ).

What about all the cyclists who believe the rules of the road don't apply to them?

Bring on Boris :bannana: :bannana:

Cheers,

words fail me. Buslanes fair enough.

but cyclists! what next?!

So are the cyclists paying the road tax for their part of the road or insurance for when they cause an accident or damage to people cars yet??

Don't get me started on horses & horse boxes driven by people who can just about park their Corsa!

lol

Probably the revenue has gone down from speed cameras so like any other income generating company, they are just looking to diversify and create more revenue.

At the risk of being contraversial, doesn't anyone think it might be to stop flagrant abuse of cycle lanes by car drivers and to ensure the more vulnerable cycle riders actually have the safety of the cycle lane as intended?

You are definitely right. It works in holland where the bike has more priority than the car.
So if you are at a junction and want to turn right and the bikes parked up alongside you are going straight, you have to wait till they all pass before you can turn.
But then again there is a dedicated bike lane network and they do not crisscross cars paths all that often, unlike here where you have a bike lane for 100metres then ends into the road then another for 10metres .
Absolute chaos.
Then having civilians manning the cameras is just scary.

My brother has ridden from delft to denhaag just on cycle lanes.
I doubt if you can ride like that south of england

Might be nice to have some cameas to catch the cyclists that ride on pavements.... Have to make them fit number plates first:)

I am a cyclist but agree absolutely with this point. Bikes shouldn't be on the pavement.

I had one today cycling the wrong way on a one way section shouting at the drivers who weren't giving way to her??!!

Then on some country lanes a few, not all together, cycling in the middle of the road (road not lane!) then one barged between cars at a junction as they couldn't wait in the queue of traffic, hit one car, scratched it then said when the owner complained 'that's what your insurance is for!'

Hence I'm a bit anti cyclist today!

I think they'll be using cameras to catch truck drivers smoking in the cab soon enough. Nice little earner there..

I had a bit of an issue whilst pedalling the pedalcycle onto Connel bridge yesterday. I rode up to the traffic light, then took the option of the path to get accross the bridge. This seemed to incense the driver of a big SUV, who started to make his feelings known. However, he very soon moderated his attitude as I about faced and road straight round to his window to ask him exactly which bit of the one lane I should ride on?

He suddenly stated I was ok, which amused the truck driver behind to some tune. I waved and promptly set off again, directly into the flow of oncoming traffic.

For info, this bridge is an old rail bridge, which has one lane about 10feet wide for vehicles, and one path for walking, cycling accross. If you cycled on the road accorss it you would get squashed or you you would hold everyone up which would then create an addional hazard of the lights changing at the other end them getting squashed between the oncoming traffic too.

If we had more cycle lanes round here, it would be safer but I would prefer it if road users had more respect for everyone who uses the road. This does include cycles.

Mind you, I am sure they will tax the Carbon emissions from the person on the bike soon.

We should start campaigning for 'car lanes' on busy roads.

There could then be penalties for buses and bicycles that stray into these clearly marked areas.

quite right.

That always bugs the hell out of me too. Cars arent allowed in bus lanes , but busses reguarly cut back into the car lane to pass other stopped busses.

That will be right , don't cut out in front of me

Yes empty busses too. Not full ones running a capacity, but empty ones far too big to be of use during the day choking up roads that should be free of this ridiculous form of transport..

First we walked, then we had horse and carriage, then the horseless carriage, then Concorde, now we have global warming and the internet and everyone wants to travel by bus? Yeah, right! We have moved on havent we?

No wonder the dinosaurs killed themselves.
