Hi All
Just had MOT done on c220 estate(W203) and failed on a few things.
Most are sorted just the suspension arms to fit on monday.

I have had a sticking handbrake the last 5 or so years. if i pull it up with my feet, the light stays off. This year it stayed on and the rear brakes seem to be binding. This was confirmed by the MOT test. Hence i changed the whole lot.

The foot operated parking brake appears to release fine (I hear the click) however the warning on dash does not dissapear, I then move the parking brake upwards manually and this appears to get rid of the warning light.

I have looked at the panel under the rear seat and clean out the grease and greased again. It has improved as the light stays off if lifted. But am worried it won't work at the MOT retest.

The parking release feels like it is missing a spring. Your advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

MOT repair COST so far
Wipers - Changed to Valeo ones at £28
rear brakes - changed the disc, pads, shoes, fitting pack £80
suspension arm lower front LH, RH- £95 - to be fitted monday
labour -£130

4 yokohama tyres fitted prior to MOT - £300
Possible tracking after fitting control arm £££££

I had the same problem with the parking brake on my W203 coupe. To be fair i never used it for years and when i came to adjust it the shoes fell to bits.

I fitted new rear discs and shoes and then adjusted the threaded bar under the seat. The tension this put on the cable then made the parking brake pedal spring back on release.
