You can, if you wish, just simply connect your, (any), MP3 player to the aux input of the comand, (assuming it has one, usually its in the glovebox), via the headphone socket using a 3.5mm screened cable then select ''AUX''.

People, me included, have noticed that the volume from the aux input using it this way is not the same, its lower for a given knob setting, as on other input selections like CD/radio/DVD etc.

The other route is to have installed a pukka iPod connection kit. Of course, this would limit you to being able to use just the iPod via this kit which I believe is a digital connection.

Portzy.

where would iget this pukka iPod connection kit?

From you local MBZ dealer I would say being as the connection is into the comand socketry itself. Although ;) , you could try using the forums ''Private Message'' system to send a message to a member called ''Alfie''. His company does lots of comand retrofits so he may be able to help.

I don't think there is an oem ipod kit for the 163 as it uses the cd-based comand unit similar to the 208 and 210, older 203 etc.

There are lots of aftermarket choices though, I just bought the parts required for the aux cable and hope to fit it in the next few days (as soon as I can get the stupid "quick release" cover off the socket!) and I have a fairly cheap mp3 player that I use daily on the train.

you can now use a kenwood KOS-A200 unit for

w163 command unit.........
