My clocked car and the ongoing saga..

barryj

That's the kind of thread we need on here...Excellent...:D:D

I concur, I would personally be doing very little to push the resolution along. A friend was caught up in the BMW saga were their main and back up supplier for X5 rear lights went bust at the same time, his car was in for a minor non fault repair that involved a new light.

He was in a 530d hire car at the insurance companies expense until the repair (minus the light) was complete and then BMW started picking up the bill while they sourced and approved a new supplier for OEM rear lamps. After 4 months he was still in the very expensive Hire car and still no sign of the lights, needles to say he didn't chase them once.

When they rang him to tell him it was likely to be another 3 months he suggested that they took his X5 (old model on a 55 plate) and gave him a brand new one (new model zero miles) and called it quits. Faced with a hire car bill already running into 10's of thousands and the potential for it to double they bit his hand off. The next day (and it really was the next day) a brand new X5 to the same spec and colour as his old one was delivered he signed for it, handed over the documents for his old X5 and has never heard from them since. At the time there was a waiting lits for the new X5 that was several months long.

The ironic bit about this is that they could have got an X5 rear light from e-bay fitted it and he would have been none the wiser, but BMW would not do that (but I bet MB would!).

Sorry for the off topic story but its one that still makes me chuckle today.

I am amazed they didnt just take a light off a used car in stock and fit it....

I decided today i am going to get trading standards involved.

And going to go to my solicitor.

No managers on site today. Also the replacement is starting on Monday.

Pretty much have no choice..

Who were you liasing with at Mercedes-Benz UK and have you kept all the correspondance?

I am extremely surprised, perplexed and indeed baffled as to why the manufacturer has not become involved. It makes no sense!

Good luck with Trading standards but don't hold your breath regarding a quick resolution.

Regards
John

Alternatively, get some A4 sheets printed up with a full explanation of what happened in diary form, stick to facts only.

Stand in front of the showroom and distribute to every customer that enters......then await the cheque within 30 minutes.

Ok now another update.

Got call from sales manager just now. Car has been sourced of a similar spec.

Seems i have to travel down to see the car. Which is a 120 mile trip.
Do you feel qualified to examine the car? Is this in writing or is it still via phone calls? Why should you travel 120 miles to see the car? Get them to Habeas corpus the beast:devil:.:D Do you trust this manager?

John

I agree with John. Say that you are not prepared to travel. And if they have sourced the car as opposed to found one that means they've already bought it so they will have to bring it back anyway. Also ask for a precise description and equipment of the car, in writing. If it is a Approved Used car, it is very simple to do, they just need to print it off the web. Do little efforts, you are better off driving around in their car...

Serious Tip:

Whatever you do, don't hand the keys to the loan car back to them until your dealings are completely finished to your satisfaction.

Before going to see the car do all the legwork checking it out. This way you are not clouded by all the emotions that come with buying a new car.
Also this gives you time to think about any small issues there may be and have them checked out to your satisfaction.

After that have them deliver the car to you for inspection and acceptance.

Why is Donza editing (deleting) his posts?
On this thread and on another I just read "off topic"

I think he got a bit too bothered about this being in the public domain. The other thread had work related comment in it which was perhaps not for public consumption.

This one was Ok though..

Donza...Chill..:)

any news Donza on the outcome of the situation?

Has the dealer bumped off Donza? Was the new car a ruse to lure him to a remote spot:crazy:  ?

They sourced a sodding elegance. I refused it on the spot, no question.

It just gets more and more problematic. After a definitive list of specs as per the previous car which was an Avantgarde, what on earth would i want an elegance for?

However, Today i actually built a good rapport with the new guy who replaced the previous head of sales.

He seems quite on the ball and is on the case.

In case this episode had aged you 50 years...

However, Today i actually built a good rapport with the new guy who replaced the previous head of sales.

A telling statement......;)

Good to see you are still about Donza - I hope it works out with the new head of sales
