After a frantic day of phone calls between me and my contract hire company and MB Corporate sales in London my car finally made it at 9.30pm last night!

By this time it was too late to really inspect it or drive it far but I made up for it today putting almost 300 miles on the clock.

Delivery was a nightmare, I had a phone call at 9.30am Tuesday to say it was on it's way to me and I should have it for 2.00pm. At 4.30pm there was no sign of the car! After another phone call I was told it had left Doncaster at 5.00pm and would be with me in Thetford, Norfolk at 7.00pm (some chance of that!!!) so it was decide to deliver to my home about 20 minutes from my office in Thetford. At 6.30pm I had anther phone call to say it was in Purfleet, Essex and at 5.30pm it was still there with no delivery driver available! But it WOULD be with me by 9.30pm! At 9.25pm it arrived on a trailer at my house.

I have been out in it all day and it is fantastic, really puts my C Class (which I loved from day one) in the shade. So quiet and so smooth, and absolute pleasure to drive.

The number plate shown is only temporary, THE lady at DVLA that deals with transfers is on a 2 week cruise apparently so my personalised plate cannot be transferred until her return!!! ONE person to deal with plate transfers in the whole of the DVLA!!

Tis lovely - not surprised you've had a good day out in it

ooh... looks lovely

Purfleet, Essex:D
My lorry yard is there.
You should have called me and I could have driven it up to you;)

Might have a tad more than 300 on the clock now though:devil:

Once you've settled in with the car, I'd be interested to know how much use you make of the paddles and how much you just leave the gearbox to sort itself out. Ok, mine's a five speed box but apart from on steep gradients in the Lake District I can almost count on one hand the number of times I've moved the selector from D to the "Tiptronic" position.

Rather than the two setting on the gearbox C or S, I now have C, S and M and according to the book, M is full manual via the paddles! I was tempted to try it today but Ithought what is the point in having a lovely 7 speed auto and using paddles!! I didn't specify paddles, they are just part of the Sport option.

Nice car...

Might wanna blank out the number plates though... ;)

Silly question, but why blank out the plates, hundreds of people see them whilst on the road, so what is different here?

The plates will be replaced with my own within the week so it really doesn't matter but I just wondered why people bother to blank them out when they are clearly visible to all every day of the week....

Now that is a beast. What a machine .Chris bangles. Eat your heart out.

If someone wanted to clone your car (it does happen) they could either drive round for ages trying to find one the same, or do the easy thing and log onto a Mercedes forum.
I know which would be easier for them;)

That was the reason for my question. In 27 months of ownership, I've never selected C. In bad weather I use a light foot otherwise I just enjoy the wall to wall torque. Not been beaten in the traffic lights grand prix yet. :D

Ah, I see what you mean!! The plates will be changed in a few days, so I guess they can do what they want with the old number then!!

nice car , but i can now understand how she can afford to go on a cruise at £80 a time for the transfer ;)

very nice looking car, love the interior

Looks a graet car! Don't you just love the V6 Diesel? Its the best diesel engine I have driven.
I also drive a V6 diesel E class on 18" wheels not a million miles from Thetford and I'm sure you are going to enjoy your new car. Mine is 9 months old now and will be due its first service in month or so at about 16000 miles. In that time it has done almost 40 mpg average, and as you say the drive is teriffic.
When you tire of the paddle shifts, do try 'C' on the 7 speed auto.
The urgency from standstill suffers slighty (it dosn't bother with 1st) but the fact that it keeps the engine in a lower RPM band pays off in economy and refinement. With the urge of the V6 low RPM, I have never felt a lack of speed compared to the 'D' setting. Enjoy!

I have just done a bit of a deal with a local garage on a superchip for it. This time I am going for the plug in module so I can remove it in the event of a problem or service. Going by what the last one did for me I should get another 30BHP (not that it needs it!) and an extra 10% on my fuel economy :bannana:

I am tired of the paddles already, what's the point in having a 7 speed auto and changing gear manually!! I tried them this morning for a few minutes and thought Nah, automatic is for me!!!!

Beautiful motor.
