My W124 300TE AMG - Restoration!

Currently replacing the head gasket and a full head overhaul as I started getting coolant in exhaust for a short while after a warm start.... I'll do a thread on it when I have more time but it's been testing getting the Amg specific parts needed!

Learnt a fair bit about the mods amg did when new... Obviously block bored out but fair amount of work done to the head too.

I had just done my water pump, viscous bearing, radiator, thermostat, hoses etc otherwise it would be advisable to do all of these too.

Had the rocker cover and air filter covers painted, the original covers were badly peeling.

Thanks I think she is worth it, certainly has tested my patience in last year with lots going wrong...mainly new a/c Condensor then cooling system issues and then the head gasket... But this car is a fantastic long distance cruiser... Perfect for collecting those unplanned Ebay purchases... Hoping to do an alps trip this year too...

Amazing car. Were there many of these sold in the UK?

No official figures but I've never seen another uk estate. A few saloons and coupes have come up.

At the time these were being sold, the cooperation between amg and mb was still in its infancy, they had started to tie up so that parts could be ordered through mb but sales of the cars were still seperate... and so these were still sold through the agents.. In the uk this was strattons..

A few in the usa and a lot more in japan...

If it were not so unique if be having v8 ideas!

Thanks, I think it's the cars way of telling me I need to use it more

Keep up the good work, I really admire your dedication and the attention to detail that you put in to all of your cars.

There was a 5L m119 converted wagon on German eBay a while back, that must have been awesome if done properly

You are doing such a fab job on this!

Hi All,

Some of you know I bought the above car that was being discussed on here..

Anyway, pics say a thousand words.

Will update the thread with progress...
Hi Jay, could you help me with idea for replace model and size you use in your car/ second air intake hose/ please. My car has silver aluminium hose look terrible and I looking to replace. I can see few different types on Ebay but I am not sure the right size.
My car is 300E 3.4 AMG , engine M104980. Thanks

Love this, another amazing motor buddy!

2016 and I've bought a e320T 94' that needs some love... Your car has been an inspiration for my restoration project... The Barge as she's affectionately known is now at Merc Medics having the head gasket redone, I've replaced the wiring loom (silec), and duovalve to date... Still to be done before we even start on the body is the whine on the diff, some sportline springs with number 1 pads to start (maybe the fronts will need cutting down a small amount) Bilsten struts, new ARB bushes, subframe bushes, tailgate lifters, maybe brake lines! Oh and the AC sorted... Then on to the body.

Parts already purchased: AMG 17" x 7.5" split rims with black centres, gloss black grille with Avantgarde insert, red/smoked rear lights (yet to arrive) and the most worrying prospect, an AMG gen 3 replica fibreglass body kit (fingers crossed on this one!!!)
She is currently blue black and grey at the bottom and will either be blue black all over or wait for it.... Drum roll... Designo Sepang Brown metallic! New front wings are on order and will have an AMG type spacer kit installed as well as having the inner lips rolled... Other body mods will be the removal of the rubber roof bars and delete on the headlamp wipers... Interior will remain standard (Mushroom leather, seven seat option) except for a new head unit and speaker and maybe a sportline steering wheel.

Actually thinking about it should I start a new forum for this?? I'm new here?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
