Although I usually prefer the sound from the two door speakers alone, I have recently been experimenting with the Bose ‘Surround’ setting on the system in my R230, and to this end I removed the long plastic panel behind the seats that covers the two rear speakers.
It turns out they are 2 inch speakers! TWO inches!
The sound from these pathetic excuses for speakers is predictably thin and tinny and a painful noise to the ears. So much for Bose sound quality.
What can I do to improve the sound? The speakers are fixed in a long plastic moulding that one would have to modify heavily to fit even a 3.5 inch speaker or a 4 inch speaker.
Obviously, I realise that even a pair of 4 inch speakers is hardly the last word in high fidelity, but anything has to improve a pair of 2 inches?
It seems a flawed design to trust the rear of a surround system to a pair of 2 inchers.
Anyone else noticed the deterioration of mid and bass sound quality when switching to ‘Surround’ sound?
Now I know why.
Thanks
