It's gone beyond 'want'. I NEED an LSD for my E55. One-tyre fires suck balls. So does doing a three point turn with an auto box.

I bought an AMG for a reason. I wish to pull out of junctions sideways, like an absolute hero. Nobody loves a one-wheel peel, and if you do get both wheels to spin up, it's not what you'd call predictable.

If I understand correctly, a factory LSD was never offered on the W210 but on the W202 C36/C43 it was an option. So that might fit. Is this the same diff as mine?

What about one from a late-model E63? I take it these are electronically-controlled? I'm not scared of wiring or fab work.

Since there's apparently nothing special about my E55 diff compared to the lesser models (is this true?) I still fully intend on getting another one from a yard and welding it, so I can see first-hand just how dangerous it really is. I think it's not the sort of car you'd want a welded diff on all the time however, so I would like to know if I can fit some sort of late-model LSD to it.

I've seen an aftermarket one from America and it cost more than I paid for the car.

Anyone have any info please?

Hi,
I didn't believe an LSD diff was ever an option on the C class either, if it was it would be so so rare that you will never find one, besides the 210 55 diff is different to the C class as it has the larger casing, I investigated putting a 55 diff in my C43 and it would of involved modifying the floor pan of my 43.
The cheapest option would be for a Quaife unit, there was/is a group buy on the forum somewhere and from memory it is/was less than a grand, but does need specialist setting up in your casing, though you could eliminate the labour charges involved in removing/installing the diff in the car if you are handy with the spanners.

Quaife atb. I had one on my c43/55 and it transformed the car. Prestige Car Service can supply them. Search for member BlackC55.

Why not just get a Quaife LSD that is specified for a W210 E55?

What he said. Have a word with Paul at Euro-Charged, he often has special offers on and is a top man to deal with.

Pulling out of junctions sideways is better done with an open diff as LSD will always try to make your car go straight.

I would start with better tyres.

We can supply and fit a Quaife diff. Fantastic upgrade and it will allow you to go sideways properly

If you giving it WOT from standstill with the TC off it will go sideways with an LSD. An open diff will just spin one wheel.

Errrm I think you're mildly mistaken with that one. If that was the case drift lads wouldn't be welding their diffs.

I had an LSD in my tuned (411hp) C32 AMG, it use to put all the power down, hardly ever use to get wheel spin.

The diff is well worth it, however decent tyres always make a big difference on performance cars.

Whoa, whoa. LOL!

I must have misread the original question, apologies for that.

If "pulling out of junctions sideways" means "drifting", then by all means an LSD (or even a welded diff) will make the life easier. Open diff is better to get in and out of corners, which I thought the OP's goal was (my mistake, let me crawl back to where I came from lol)

Had Quaife LSD fitted to SL55 by PCS. Makes a huge difference especially when roads get a bit slippery and especially now I have a bit more power!! Recommend PCS as they did a great job!!

Yep on my shopping list after some decent exhaust manifolds

Find it a bit slow to engage gear sometimes, usually when other traffic is approaching. If it's something big, like a wagon it seems to take ages lol in all seriousness though it's quicker with a manual.
