Note the new Rear clusters, new dash & COMAND & the new speedo.

Not bad for a 29 year old Chassis

If they can do that for the G, what about the Land Rover Defender!!!

(ex-owner of a 90 for 9 years)

If you check the MB site though, it comes with that interior, but still as G55 kompressor. No 63 in sight yet...

If that was in Black

Nice, very nice, very very nice...

Good to see they're re-using some W203 components! - Dials, centre console, switch row & possibly COMAND.

Can I have a black one too please, I'm not fussy, a G55 would do!

Something not quite right here chaps......

Hang on a mo,

I thought the '63' was a N/A V8, yet the white one clearly says V12 on the side, but is selling as a G63..................something strange going on there, unless my eyes are breaking again!!!!!

First one has oval sidepipes and the white one has the old skool square ones ...

Incidentally the sidepipes look like the AMG designers stood back and said ' Yah ! at last ve haf finished ......... Oh s**** ve forgot ze auspuffs , bung zem under ze rear doors qvickly ! '

I think the G-wagen is a very practical 4x4, but these two examples seem to contradict what the G-wagen represents? I understands it is all about horses for courses, but if I wanted a luxury 4x4 then I'm afraid it would be a top of the range Range Rover :) Especially now Range Rover have finally developed a V8 diesel :)

Looks to me like very well thought out positioning of the exhausts for off roading.

At the rear they would present overhang problems. Situating them near the Sill, right next to the rear wheel eliminates the problem without reducing ground clearance.

I get your point Sp!ke, but do you really think that anyone is going to go offroading in the G63 ? other than parking on a grass verge occasionally ...

They are there purely for cosmetic purposes , if they were worried about people offroading then sure 18 inch AMGs with low profile tyres wouldn't be the best choice either ? some big 'mud pluggers' might ?

Where do the exhausts on the standard G Wagen exit ?

None of these have side exhausts , even the military one ....

However all the AMG models do , seems that they put the exhausts in the most practical place on the least practical car ....

face it, G wagons, GL series, land rovers, discos, range rovers, porsche cayennes Q7`s all suck as off roaders, they are called chelsea tractors for one good reason, they are brought by people who want to look like off roader out door types but wouldnt know a locking diff if I smacked them in the face with one, (I may or may not have woken up in a bad mood) so why bother advertising its ground clearance or attack angles? if you go off roading the vehicle you are most likely to see is one of these because its the cheapest AND IT WILL GO ANYWHERE

form follows function, like a race car, its ugly but purposefull, if your gonna talk off roading talk about this, if your gonna talk tart wagons, (whats mentioned above) I would just like to mention that at the car show where they had an off roader course they had a Pinzgauer to hand of any of them got stuck!

How many gallons to the mile do you get from one of those Pinzgauer's then?

Howard, That Military one looks like a Puch..

having been offroad and down a river in a GL420 , i beg to differ with their offroad ability.

however , they are a good compromise between that tractor in the ebay post and being able to be comfortable.

Unimog rules

I bet they are still a death trap in a crash  because despite all the fine trim and better finish they are an ancient design still classified as a "commercial" vehicle." Anyone buying one of these is wasting their money IMHO. :( If they want to make "an offroad statement" why not buy a Brabus UNIMOG black edition and don't bother with "girly" cars. ;) http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/magazine/3300.asp?id=12779

I am still of the opinion that the tyres are far more important than the brand of 4x4. I have seen a number of Landrovers get stuck in snow simply because they have well worn road tyres. An AMG 4x4 will usually have high speed tyres solely designed for road use, thus making them pretty useless off-road.

Just my thoughts though

Again i couldnt believe how well the GL420 coped on standard road tyres offroad in mud and water with slippery rocks on the banks.

Low range is whats needed when the going gets tough.

Id hardly say a G-WAGEN is crap off road! Perhaps a G55, not a G500.

Runs muddy rings around a Landrover!

The Pinzgauer is a Puch, Styer Daimler Puch, there are so many variants and options it varies, base 4x4 GS low 20`s 6 ton armoured less,

unfortuntaly the pinz beats the unimog for offroadability, the 4x4 has 2 double crown locking diffs, nobody else has that, thats why its the best
