Just fitted Osram Silverstar Bulbs in front headlights, now when I turn lights on I get the warning bulb light on Dash, but bulbs work fine in all settings... any ideas why new bulbs should cause this and can I stop it..

Are you sure the new bulbs are the correct wattage? If not, that will trigger the warning as the bulb's resistance will be different.

these are the blighters http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H4-Osram-Silverstar-Upgrade-Bulbs-with-FREE-Sidelights_W0QQitemZ360064333751QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item360064333751&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

will it be ok to use these or do I need to change back

just found this info about them H4 12V 60/55W Not DOT approved.

Change them back to see if it fixes the problem. DOT approval doesn't apply to the EU they need an E number.....just like Blue Smarties..

and if it does fix problem, does that mean bulbs faulty or just not compatible with my system... ie what are the dangers of using these and ignoring the warning light

I can't see how they can be faulty unless they are the wrong bulbs for your car, they are 55/60W H4.

Did you fit only the main bulbs or also the side lights?

They are 60/55W, so that should be OK.

5W for those side lights might be off, which could cause the warning.

Sorry to ask what might seem like a silly question, but have you checked that all lights are effectively working, including the tail lights?

Agreed. I don't have the specs for a W124, but H4 60/55W sounds right. A different bulb model (H?) would not fit.

I guess they might have a slightly different resistance value, but hard to see how that would create a problem, in the end there are always minor tolerance differences.

OK just check all lights working, all lights operate ok front and rear inc. fog, only thing is when i put parking lights on, nothing happens, changed bulbs back to original no change so I'm guessing must have dis-lodged a wire the connectors where really stiff to come off.. will check over when get some day light..

If it's any help Paul , i swapped to Silverstars on my old w124 and there was no problem at all .

Ha Ha !

What i'm trying to say is that there is nothing wrong with the bulbs , must be something else , i wasn't trying to be funny :o

I assume the parking lights are supposed to come on together with the headlights (as well as being used separately for the left/right parking light position). I'm pretty sure that's what happened on my W126 (although that is many years ago and I'm getting senile :D), so if you accidentally disconnected the parking lights, that would explain the bulb warning.

there is one thing, when I tried the parking lights engine running, the dash error light dosent come on.. and neither do they..

how much can you bugger up changing bulbs..

Gotta be a loose connection somewhere ...

I get a bulb warning light very occasionally , even though all bulbs are working , it is the drivers side foglight , a sharp thump sorts it out .

If that's the CLK check the connectors into the back of the units. They corrode and give a poor connection.

No , it's the whale ...

Have checked everything and seems tight . I put it down to JOOTT.
