New Exhaust - Thanks V12

Sym

Cant you add a space between the exhaust hanger plate and the body of the car, The bolt should reach through, if not buy a longer bolt.

Yeah - this is one plan for lowering it. The main issue is moving it back - this will require either the hangers to be modified, or the tailpipes cut and re-welded (I prefer the first option!) . Have had the same specialist that Graham used take a look at it, and going in on Tuesday for them to sort it out - one way or another !

All sorted, thanks to <plug>Melvin at TopGear in Aylesbury</plug>, who really knows his exhausts, and has some very mean looking tools & welding equipment (wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him !)

It was possible to cut off a little more of the existing pipe so that the whole box could be pushed back, and the tailpipes now protrude from the bumper just far enough for the AMG Logos to be seen, but nothing like how it was before.

The height issue was fixed by manufacturing & welding some new custom hangers, which was all done in the space of about 2 minutes - very impressive ! It sits just below the bumper now.

Will post a picture shortly.

I told you Melvin is the man!

Glad it's sorted. I can imagine your bill was peanuts too like mine.

The bill was most acceptable, considering all the yanking, bashing, heaving, swinging from the pipes, and swearing that he did !

Here's the pics :-

lovely but you still need to get your suspension lowered :p

I know !! Got a quote today for springs and dampers .... £220 - excluding fitting. The place that did the exhaust can supply, but not fit :(

....one of these days !!

Exhaust looks the biz Sym well done. PS. Leave your springs alone. Subtlety cant be put back into your suspension very easily once youve mucked it up. I've now heard enough bad news stories on lowering W202s that I'm no longer bothered. Dune Buggies are just fine!

as you have an estate, easy way to lower the suspension.....dump in 10 sacks fo spuds (the 25kg variety) heh

Looking much better Sym. What springs and damper did you opt for?

I didn't - just got a quote - and not sure exactly what make that was for.

I think this mod requires some further research before committing to anything, as I'm very reluctant to mess the suspension up ! Will go and buy some potatoes for now :)

Just check what spring pads you have and go for the lowest. Thy are cheap and easily replaced if you need to.

How easy? Doesn't the spring have to be dropped hence we need the expensive MB spring compressor none of us have?

Mine needs a drop too.
