Hi Everybody,

I'm the proud owner of my new (to me) daily 2015 E63 Wagon. 58k miles Obsidian black on black.

I'm based in SW London and have already been to PCS (Prestige Car Service) for an initial PPI and some remedial work. Only problem is that it's a little far from me.

Do you have any recommendations for either main dealer (I wouldn't mind finding a good one) or independents that are either south London or Surrey based?

She needs a service B and also this steering rack bolt recall from Mercedes.

Any advice is highly appreciated and I'm glad to be part of the club!

Best,

J

Welcome, not long picked up pretty much the same model as you. Although yours from that photo is popping more than mine.

If it helps I've recently signed up to a 2 year service plan from the main dealer (can extend) £44 per month, includes MOT and any "Recommend/Additional" work so has some added value. Plus means it keeps to being a full Main dealer history car which with this type of car/model is a must come resale.

Love the car, looks awesome. I'm based in S/E London and I use Mercservices over in Mitcham to look after my C63 Wagon. I've had a few bits done with them including and A and B service and they've been great. Hope that helps.

Welcome aboard 👍

I got a recall too, received a letter from MB a while back, apparently there are 3 bolts that need changing on the electronic steering rack. Haven't had mine done yet but will do.

There is one independent mb specialist in London, previously mentioned but, I forgot the name and hoping AMGeed should chime in 🙂

With regards to the steering bolts, this has to be done via mb dealership, so they can update DVLA records otherwise it will continue to show up as red flag on the mot history.

PCS are holding annual event 'BOTG' at Horndean on Saturday, 13th May'23. Get yourself down there if you can, lots of AMGs going too so more the merrier 👍

That would be Terry at Wayne Gates in Harrow. He knows his AMGs and rebuilt the M157 engine on Dennis's E63.

Gents you've both mentioned a recall with the steering rack. I'm actual having a slight whine as such under slow almost walking speed while on anything over half lock from the drivers side. MB said these cars can do it and regressed some bits. It made it better yet its still present.

I've not had any paper work through re a recall. Do you have any documentation you could share as its going in for a service tomorrow so I'll raise it.

Thanks for the info everybody!

I've gone ahead and booked her in for Mercedes Guildford as I did notice on the star printout she was there 10k miles ago too by the previous owner. I also hear they are pretty good.

Service B goes for £610 which I'm assuming isn't too bad. They also tried to sell me an injector clean at £39 but I'm not sure that is useful on the AMGs? Need to read up more about that first.

Other two things that kind of have been bugging me about the car and I may put this on another thread are:

1. I feel like the car drifts way more to the left or is sensitive to road camber than any of my other cars. She's had recent front thrust arms replaced and an alignment done at PCS but I don't see much change. They say they are like that. Can you all confirm?

2. The foot parking brake is suuuuuuper slow to disengage. I need to pull the handle multiple times and even use my foot to lift it. Colder weather makes it worse.

3. At slow manoeuvring speed (parking) there's a bit of noise from the rack/steering wheel. Not terrible but again something that you notice.

And.....where should I get a resonator delete that looks factory? haha. She needs a bit more noise but not too much.

Thanks all!

2) it can be a simple case of lightly cleaning and lubricating the mechanism for the foot / park brake. There is a YouTube video and it’s quite simple to follow and quick.

3) fairly common to hear a very slight creak / groan when turning the wheels at slow speed. Get a second opinion at service time but at this stage would say it’s fine.

Discreet Resonator delete that retains the box - MSL will do this (Birmingham) or use PCW Exhausts (Instagram). On the latter all of his exhaust work is done to retain the OEM look.

That's awesome Jules. Thanks for the pointers.

Quite like the idea of the discreet resonator delete! I just can't stand any crappy looking welds. I'm very OCD about my stuff!

As above do you have any documents/paper work which I can show my local dealer?
No need, just use the UK Government's website for checking vehicle recalls. Pop you’re registration number in and it will tell you if the recall is outstanding for your specific car.

main dealer’s will know about the recall. They will be doing several of them every week.

Have the same issues with mine mate. I've found re the parking brake is to not be in so much of a rush to pull away. Pull the release leaver further out and hold for a second longer than you'd think it would need rather than almost flicking it out and release. It disengages everytime this way.

Re the steering, I find it's at low speed from the drivers side only. Took it to MB for diagnostics on something else and asked if they could have a look at the same time. They mentioned that it's a common issue with the E class. Think the lower control arm, they had the technician re grease some bits and although it less frequent and quieter it still occurs. The car is in tomorrow for a service so they'll be having another look at it.

Also on the cost, although mine is on 67k 9ts due a B service. With the pan Roof and fuel filter additional work the cost was knly £586. £170 of that was for the additional work. So £600 sounds a little high but this will be very dependant on what is due on you B service as standard.

Steve, type in your VRM into the gov.uk link below to see if a recall has been announced for you car. If it has then you should get your car booked in quoting ref SRPC2256 with mb dealership, the ref is same for everyone. I think likely they will eventually get round to those affected and send letters in a staggered form to avoid influx of bookings at the dealership. Not sure if the CLS63 have been affected too 🤔
