Just tried my hand at respraying a panel and really pleased with the result. Got a great finish but does it need buffing up and if so with what? Three coats metallic plus two clear gloss lacquer.

Having looked around I think it would be easier to get a rotary machine. Some of them are quite cheap. Is there any problems with the cheap ones. Hate to put marks in my new paint after so much trouble. Wouldn't by hand be hard work?

A few guys on here are using the Silverline rotary (or similar e.g. B&Q version) to good effect. If you haven't used one before I'd watch a few YouTube vids. No problem with them as long as you keep it moving (as per vids) so as not to let heat build up it one area.

Depends what paint you have used but on MB Paint I use a Silverine Rotary with 3M pad and Menzerna Polishes. For softer paints on the Volvo's I use Sonus pads and Poorboys polishes and glaze. Rotary's are easy dont believe the scare stories, as already said just keep them moving and you will be fine :thumb:

Thanks to all for the very good advice. I am really venturing into the unknown here but as I said really pleased with the result so far. Has not proved as difficult as anticipated and will now attempt to polish. The paint was mixed by Autopaints Brighton.

Do it by hand at first with some G3 then Autoglym paint restorer.

Only do small areas don't try to do too much, using any polishing machine without first doing it by hand will put you past the learning curve of when to stop polishing or detecting defects.

Have fun

I have done both wings and the boot lid, first start by rubbing it down to get rid of the orenge peal with some 1200/1400 wet and dry don't worry that it looks dul, then use some rubbing compound on small areas it will buf up really nice make sure to dampen your pad or cloth first just so it's not so ruff. good luck.
