Hi all,

I'm off to Car Hood Warehouse in Chessington tomorrow with my SL500 and having a whole new hood and windows fitted. can't wait get rid of the currently 'gaffer taped' one and be able to see out of the rear again!

I will post some pictures this week.

Sounds good, will be interested to hear your feedback and see pics!

Please do keep us updated because it is something I must do sooner rather than later.

My rear screen was very opaque and starting to split, then someone burnt a hole in the roof with a cigarette, which I repaired. The final straw was when I took off the hardtop 2 weeks ago and stupidly put the roof up when it was 5 degrees. This resulted in the brittle plastic from the rear screen ripping from the fabric, leaving two holes! Good old gaffer tape!

They did my window replacement about 5-6 years back, no complaints at all.

d:class are putting a new hood on mine in a week's time - I suspect this is a busy time for hood fitters.

mine is in next thursday for rear window replacement..... though the cloth on my roof is tip top thankfully... just re waterproofed it with renovo - so it beads beautifully now.. bye bye taped up plastic window!!

Sadly mine's a bit beyond that now - the lower edge piping is frayed and split all the way round, the stitching that holds the main part of the roof onto the bows is pretty much gone and it's generally looking tired.

Well.....the roof was fitted today and looks excellent. Really please with everything about it. I left the original grey headlining, as it was in great condition. The only extra thing that needed fitting was a tension cable that had snapped beforehand.

£895.00 fitted, with the new cable (about 4 inches long and £95!) Dropped in at 9 and ready by 15.30. This was for a complete hood with windows.

Yes the plastic windows aren't quite as thick as the original, but they seems absolutely fine.

The only problem that I have is that when I raise the roof fully, the windows do not go up fully automatically with the hood button as they should. After 2 inches, they automatically drop and the red light on the switch does not go out. I have to put the windows up by the buttons by hand.

The fitter at Car Hood Warehouse said that he had never seen this before on any R129 and wondered whether the roof was under tension and perhaps a microswitch wasn't engaging properly. He did say that all new roofs should be left up for 2 - 3 days for the fabric to stretch to its comfortable position. I think this may be the problem and that once it stretches a little, all will be well.

I had to drive the car back today, however he said if things are no better on Thursday, to pop the car back and he will drop it to a garage in Dorking who specialise in R129s and can sort this for me. We will see on Thursday!

I also have an MOT on Thursday with Alan Robertson in Hove, my local expert, so I will ask him what he thinks first and go from there.

Any thoughts?

All in all, an excellent roof and I hope the little issue gets resolved!

The roof's great and they were happy for me to leave the car to get it sorted tomorrow, but I needed to head off.

I did reset the windows, but will do it again tomorrow. It will be fine! Fingers crossed!

Yes, it is in Mohair. I just hope I (or they) can sort the window sync issue

I have a friend who had his rear plastic window replaced by D-Class and he had a choice of the thickness OEM or other ( Thinner ) he of course went for OEM.

They come highly recommended.
