New R129 hood being fitted tomorrow!

Well, car Hood Warehouse recommended that I take my SL to see Adam at Cayman Auto Services in Dorking. They specialise in convertible hood mechanisms and Adam is a fully qualified Mercedes technician and knows these models inside out.

After plugging the car in and having a good look, he diagnosed that the new hood, being under much more tension than the old, rather baggy one was simply causing one of the windscreen attachment points to not engage properly. It was attaching enough to allow the roof to work, however still causing it show a red warning light and not allow the windows to return.

An adjustment and all is now working properly!

So to summarise, Car Hood Warehouse did an amazing job for the new hood and give Adam a call at Cayman Auto Services if you have any roof issues.

Now...when's this rain going to stop!

I'll let you know when I get mine back at the end of next week.

Will also be interested to know how you get on with them mate, as I hope to go back to d:class to get my hood done....:)

hi, glad to hear it is all sorted and looking well good now. do you know if cayman are speciaists in W124 hoods as well? do you have a contact Number for them.

regards R.

Cayman don't fit hoods, they just repair mechanisms on a whole variety of cars, although with the Mercedes technician, have a great understanding of these models.

thanks for that,

I dont need it at the moment, but always good to have a reccomended indi specialist logged in the black book prior to actually needing to use their services. (I'm sure i will one day).

d:class are putting a new hood on mine in a week's time - I suspect this is a busy time for hood fitters.

My W124 cabriolet is going to d:class at the end of this month to have a new soft-top with colour change and a frame mechanism check-over.

The soft-top is now 18 years old and showing signs of having had a better life; the mechanism is now giving me trouble.

Time to get the plastic card out:mad:

Mine is starting to fray at the top of the side section (usual place for them to go I think).

Is it still possible to get MB hoods, or are they all aftermarket replacements nowadays, if so I would be interested to know how they compare.

Regards, R.

I'm sure you can, but at a premium. To be honest, the hood I got from Car Hood Warehouse seems just as good as the old one.....we'll see in 15 years time!
