Hello,

I regularly do a little walk round the block with our baby and go via the Mercedes garage in Chester.

Walked past last night and looked at the cars, lots of new C class's in for delivery, New GL, Horrible designio SL, few S class mercs.

One of the S class mercs looked like it was ready for delivery 07, tyre blacked etc. Looked great inside never really looked before and love the old clock. What I noticed was no parking sensors??

Now it looked quite a specced up car do the new ones have a different system? Surely these days parking sensors almost standard, especially on a large car such as an S class?

OOh and I noticed one of the wheels had been kerbed already !!! I'd not be happy if I was to pick it up:(

Cheers

Parktronic is a £605 option on the S class

Still,

How much would the car be? £600 is money well spent at that level?

I was thinking its some new device or camera system...

It would be cheap to buy a Kia XZY and stick that on the back with parking sensors.....

Some people (who can place cars to within mm's) don't like it as the system tends to be too cautious so it's not that much use in a tight space.
It can also be troublesome after 2 or 3 years - the ultrasonic transducers don't like being wet. If they need to be replaced then they have to be painted. If you've been through that and had to pay for it then you might avoid Parktronic next time.

At my place the Parktronic is standard but it isn't everywhere. But are you sure the car did not have Distronic Plus? In this case it would have "invisible" parktronic sensors behind the bumper. These are radar based and don't need to be visible. Distronic is easy to see from the plastic part at the front grill, making a "no metal" area for the main Distronic Plus radar.

My amazment wasn't at the price but the fact it is an optional extra (MB UK specs, dealers may well throw 'em in!)

About £57k for the base 320CDI

BTW - Distronic Radar criuse control and parking aid is a cool £2k

The Parktronic comes standard on the S350L/S320LCDI, S500L and the S600L.

The car you saw might also have had Distronic Plus as does not show the Parking sensors, it works on a different system.

I must read the posts properly  Sorry Diesel Benz.

Of course the car in question may well have had Distronic+ But Parktronic is not standard, not according to MB UK.... ref post #6

Calm down ;) I was only suggesting that the SClass you saw might have had Distronc + .

The Parktronic is standard on all Long Wheel Base models.

The standard 320CDI is £55,000.

Have a nice day

I wasn't het-up, sorry if it came across that way.

You are quite correct LWB S class do come with Parktronic as standard (I think you would be in trouble without it!!)

BTW it wasn't me who observed the car.

Just specc'd my dream S class, went from ~£57k to just over £97k!!

Hello,

I walked back and it had gone..... So I will await the next delivery and take a pic..

I did spot a second hand CL500 they had for sale in Black, looked superb inside buttons everywhere.

I think if MB can put PDC as standard on the LWB they could put them on the SWB models ( The LWB is only 6" longer ) As I've only ever had LWB S's i assumed they all came with PDC, and you know what they say about making assumptions  .

I forgot that A210AMG started the post. Very sorry.
