So if it's plug contamination how come it hasn't affected every single car that has used it (probably hundreds of thousands by now)? And don't you think that might have occurred to them as a potential issue?
It most likely does not on most cars but use of UCL is a known problem although usually only if too much is used.
My guess would be might be just enough to tip a dirty or badly adjusted plug in some engines beyond a critical point.
Also a further guess as to why the experience might vary a little bit:

Now it is a long time since I last looked into this, but IIRC stuffing Ethanol into fuel increases the Octane rating (hurrah!) but lowers the overall calorific value (boo!). But no doubt it is "green"
