New SL not selling - Massive discounts

You know that it's much easier to resolve an issue with someone who you have a good relationship with than it is with someone on the phone or online that you haven't met.

Why? Doesn't the product have enough goodwill through reputation? SOGA and/or warranty should cover this off as a right.

WE don't believe we are thieves. I believe I put in a **** load of work and a **** load of hours to make the dealership money.

How does making your bosses money make me feel good about your business? I never said that you were thieves but I've heard it plenty of times.

To provide a high level or service and to make sure customers are happy. It's sick making when people speak of the whole trade in a bad way.

How many times a week do you hear the phrase 'I bid him right in the balls' from your colleagues?

Buying a TV or a loaf of bread does not require the same level of thought as a car and it's certainly not a stressful.

Indeed, why should buying a car be stressful?

Can you honestly say you'd buy online having never seen a car in the flesh or even driven it? I doubt it

About 12 times so far and many more I expect.

You're argument is very one sided, misinformed and outdated.

We shall see if my prediction that the industry should adapt is outdated, my experience in the trade started 30 years ago and it's moved forward a fair bit since then, where were you 30 years ago?

Time will tell.

With big discounts don't tell me that cars are being sold at a loss
It's just that no one wants to pay £95k for an SL500
Or £105k for an Audi RS7 - just searching for options
£85k for an S8
Etc etc
The cars are overpriced
And market forces kick the manufacturer to realign
And even then ...
I tried to get a test drive of an Audi RS7. £105k car
The big London dealer declined to offer me more than a 5 min run round the block. No wonder people get ..... off with the lack of service

Best customer service I have ever had has been from Amazon.

Never test driven a new car before buying. Made some mistakes as a result but that makes life interesting!

I think that's a dealer thing to be honest, we had a good hour's drive in a new S6 last month from Epsom Audi. Really nice dealership and very accommodating, we'll be ordering one early next year.

That's great to hear
And yes dealers vary so much
But you would think/hope that the manufacturer would insist on common standards of service
To say that they can't provide a test drive in a £100k car is shocking
No option
No suggestions
Nothing

I sympathise with your point of view and wish I lived near Norfolk. In fact, I wish you were at a dealer near me.

My MB dealer experience was completely different. I tavellled an hour from home to check out what I wanted and was able to do a good deal with an excellent salesman. I phoned up next day to finalise the spec and after much obfuscation by the dealership I found he had put his notice in that day and was on gardening leave. Fair enough, everyone moves jobs.

The salesman who took over was useless - unwilling to phone back, incapable of responding to an e-mail and I'm certain, he forgot to order the car for a couple of months then tried to charge me the price increase. To put the tin hat on it, he had added different wheels that I didn't want and would have preferred not to pay for.

Eventually I went to collect and he was different again, more loyal than a hungry labrador and highly focussed on what marks I was going to put on the survey. After that day I had some follow up and couldn't get a call back from him. Within a couple of months he too had left the dealership.

I'd have been every bit as well off buying from DtD or OW for the non-existant relationship with a real person that I enjoyed. My MB experience wasn't unique - I've had similar times with Audi, VW and Ford.

I salute your work ethic sir, you are possibly a very untypical represenative of the breed.

Thank you, very much appreciated. I do wish that kind of thing didn't go on, as it makes the whole profession look bad. As you can see, I do get a little wound up when I'm tarnished with the same brush. We're not all the same

Sorry to go OT here but I'm very curious.

Jaguar/Land Rover dears hip in Carlisle have just completed a massive overhaul to their premises. (Lloyds)

I drive past it regularly and have seen it from start to finish. Goodness knows how many £m it cost.

TBH the old showroom was very smart and modern. BMW & Audi in Carlisle have also done the same. I believe MB are also planing a revamp.

How can they justify spending this money when the old showrooms looked so smart? Surely the costs are passed onto the customers on car sales?

Not a criticism of the dealerships, I'm just curious on how it all works.

Ant.

Wait until you try to buy a Land Rover in said dealership ant. Anyone would of thought they were doing you a favour by offering you time of day even!

I do empathise with you James.

I'm a builder, take great pride in every job I do, I always leave a tidy, clean job. I'm very reliable and phone ahead if I'm going to be late. And above all, my customers happiness is paramount.

Given all the above it saddens me when I hear people putting me in the same tarnished pot as the stereotype builder. We're not all the same either.

Haha. You'll never see me buying a LR (or any other vulgar 4x4) Stu. I'd rather cut of my feet and stand in a bath full of vinegar. :D

Lol yes they are very new money aren't they. Everyone round Hagley has them. Quite amusing.

I don't mind them but the image is terrible.

I've got to be careful Stu. I got quite a telling off last time I voiced my opinion here about 'Bully Cars'. Generally big cars big egos. :bannana:

I have to be honest Ant you are too nice and care too much. It's a free country to express your opinion.

Unfortunately joining here made me realise how unfriendly MB owners are compared to BMW owners in general. I'm lucky the guys I did meet in person were actually really nice.

They should give the car to your for at least a day to play in for that money. Both MB and BMW haven given me the car for the weekend!
