i'm looking for a new set of wheels for my new W140, its a Grey, 1995.

I'm looking for some 19'' maybe 20'' cost depending!

i'd like your opinions on design etc, as i'm only 24, i don't mind a bit of 'bling!!!' :bannana:

Hi, if you want a subtle look the wheels off the W140 CL in 18" look really nice, you won't compromise much ride comfort either with these.

They look like the avantgarde wheels on a W210 but in 8.5 x 18 with 255/45 18 rubber all the way round ( offset 47 )

A 19" staggered wheel setup ( e.g AMG II's) would be

8.5 x 19 offset 46 with 255/40 19 rubber ( front )
9.5 x 19 offset 46 with 285/35 19 rubber ( rear )

If you dont get AMG's you may not find the same offset as above, you will have to experiment and check for caliper/arch clearance etc the tyre size however is important !!

If you stick to these sizes you wont have any probs - as i learnt by experience the cruise control on these cars is very sensitive and if you change the rolling radius from what it is calibrated with from factory it will malfunction

IMHO I wouldn't go for 20" wheels - they may look bling / crazy whilst the car is parked up, however you will be compromising too much ride comfort - the s class is known for its comfort and you would rather enjoy that then banging through potholes - trust me !

I have agree with the tyre size comments made by jasohal. The tyres on the front of mine are 5% smaller in rolling radius than the rears and the cruise doesn't work

Getting it put right this thursday with the correct front tyres, so hello cruise control again.:bannana:

I have 18x8j et44 AMGII reps fitted, the ride comfort is pretty good but I wouldn't want to go bigger, 19's look cool but the ride would be harsh. You want your S class to float you down the road really, not rattle your fillings out.

I like the 19" brabus wheels on mine. Look really good and easy to keep clean.

Those wheels look fantastic, well the whole car does actually.

What is it like riding on 19" wheels, I've said it could be harsh earlier, how do find the ride comfort?

The tolerance between front and back rolling radius is 2% for the cruise to still work by the way. Mines at 5% difference hence no cruise at the moment.

your car looks fantastic, i must admit i do also like the wheels, not having much look finding that style, plus want to spend less than £1000,

i have been quoted £820 for the ones i listed above, with Toyo 255/40/19.

That is the correct tyre size for the 8.5 x 19" wheels.

I would suggest checking they clear the brake calipers / inner arches as the offset for the wheels you've seen is 35 and not the recommended 44 -46.

You may find that you need some spacers and poss longer bolts depending on the situation.

If you require spacers get some eibach ( or any good make hub-centric ) ones as the cheap ones just make a bad problem even worse. ( would not personally get spacers bigger than 10mm )

Good luck ..and if you do get them and they fit show us some before and after pics

What a lovely day...

Got my new front tyres fitted today, 245/45 zr18 Continental Sport Contact2 rim protectors for £124 ea plus vat, bargain that I reckon.
Plus my cruise is now working again as I have the same size tyres fitted front and back. Sorted.:bannana:

What's the news on the 140 C11VAD?

got it! love it!

having had a w220 320l, the w140 is far, far, better in many ways, the one thing i don't like is the rear light arrangement - new ones ordered!

it is so, so, nice to drive, a pleasure in fact.

i will take some pics this aft and post, as wheels are on! :bannana:

how do i post pics???

If you look in the Gallery section ( I think) there's a tutorial on uploaded pics.

Briefly though, you can upload them to your own website, then insert the pictures URL using the insert image button

or, attach an image using attach files toward the bottom of the message creation screen The images have to quite small though, so this isn't the best option.

or, thirdly, and easiest of all, PM one of the Moderators - Ian or Grav say and ask them to post on your behalf.
