2007 CLK200 Kompressor Cabriolet
Hi thank you in advance for your time looking at my post.
I have recently purchased a 2007 SLK200 Kompressor Cabriolet ( soft top ), it has a couple of electrical faults i wanted to address though when researching I thought the model
was a A209, but further researching this is for the CLK. Other websites seem to imply I have a R171, though these seem to come in hard top and no rear seats.
Is there a definitive way to find out for researching problem and issues I wish to address.

Thanks for any help.

I think if you look at your chassis number, the first letter and the 3 numbers after the two letters, after should confirm what it is.

On my E Class it’s is WDD213, so mine is W213.

Pretty sure if you have a soft top it's not and SLK. Could it be a CLK? (W209)

Let us have the VIN and we'll confirm for you

What does the lettering on the back of the car say ?
What did you tell the insurance company ?
What does the MOT document say
What does the log book say ?
What did the advert say when you bought the car ?
These are all easy ways to narrow down if you have a CLK or SLK ;) .

Sounds like an A209 CLK 200 to me, but as W1ghty said it's hard to see how there could possibly be any confusion about whether it's a CLK or an SLK even if it has been de-badged (assuming it's MOT'ed, taxed and insured).

Just to add that it does get confusing - with C209/A209. Post a picture as that will help

Just popping outside to check if my CLK is actually a Mercedes. I know it's not a soft top but it has got rear seats. The engine is at the front and I have a wheel on each corner. Smells of diesel so probably not a petrol engine, lots of lights that sometimes come on in the dark and its plays nice music!!! Maybe it's a Disco.....................................:wallbash:
:wallbash::wallbash::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hi thanks for all replies, the vin indicates its a W209 CLK 200 Kompressor Elegance, what confused me is that it says SLK on the boot of car. Netter check with my insurance now as i probably put SLK on form.

Thanks everyone, and yes its mint and looks amazing.

Don’t worry someone will help indeed already have.

I have been driving Mercedes cars since 2014 when I had a new E300 Hybrid estate so an S212 the saloon a W212, I’m still mostly confused by the car designations and engine models, I now drive a 2021 GLC SUV which I believe has an ‘X’ designation but I could be wrong.

Please keep us updated. A couple of pics would be appreciated too? Have you run the VIN through a checker yet? Can be an interesting exercise......

Let us know the electrical problems you are facing (and do a search) Someone on here (possibly me as I have had two CLK!) may have had the same problems.

Mercedes model designations are indeed confusing for the uninitiated. Lots of letters and numbers. SL, CL, SLK, CLK, C, CLA, to name but a few. Also it is very easy to stick a plastic badge on a car. There are many incorrectly badged cars out there. For example I saw an A180 AMG this morning. This all adds to the fun.

Normally the make & model would be picked up automatically from the registration??

If it's insured as an SLK (which can only carry 2 people) you do need to get that sorted ASAP ... you should also correct (or remove) the incorrect badging as that has insurance implications too.

I once followed a CLC (a short-lived 'entry level' C Class coupe made in Brazil) that had been re-badged as a CLK. But pretending to be a different model is pretty rare - much more common is 'up badging' by amending the engine size and/or adding AMG badges. E.g. there was a CLK 200 near me that was badged as a CLK 55.

So my C220iAMG-M5 Ghia Vanden Plas Brabus is a no-go then?

Only if it is a Night Edition or Overfinch.
