Mercedes CLS 55 IWC
Hello all

Brand new fresh member - as newbie as they come!

I have a CLS 55 IWC that I want to sell, but I'm struggling to find out much information about this rare model.

I know that there were 55 produced worldwide, but opinion differs as to how many RHD cars came to the UK... it seems to be somewhere between 2 and 10.

Also, I have no idea how much to ask for the car. It's immaculate with 53,000 miles on it, full Mercedes service history, 2 owners... even a Mercedes warranty.

I also have the watch, which has never been worn. As much as I don't want to break up the watch and the car, I wonder whether they are worth more separately.

Any help or advice will be GREATLY appreciated!

ASHLEY

Very nice indeed and I would say worth a premium over a normal CLS55. I can remember seeing one for sale last year for over £20k when normal CLS55's were going for between £14k-£20k.

I would happily swap my none IWC CLS55 for yours and would even throw in my IWC Aquatimer chrono if it helps, as long as you leave in the IWC that comes with the car.

On a serious note I am not sure whether it is worth separating them, might be worth searching what the Ti Ingenieur is worth, if it is close to say £4-5k then may be worth separating them.

Jules.

Thanks, Jules.

I think the watch is worth £2-3,000. To be honest, I'm not too sure I have the heart to separate them anyway.

I was think of asking £20,000 for the car without the watch, but don't want to be one of those people thinking a car is worth more than it actually is...

Besides the IWC watch and a few motifs, what's the difference between this and a standard CLS55?

I think the colour was unique to the iwc model.

Awesome colour - nicest CLS I have seen

I know what you mean, but at the end of the day it is still one of only 55 special edition AMG's, so therefore even though most of the differences are aesthetic, they are expensive additions and in my view enhance the looks of the car. IWC also carries some prestige, so a nice joint venture.

It will be interesting to see if it sells quickly for £20k, especially with reasonable miles and fairly low number of owners.

I really like the colour combination, but I think that the simple facts of the car being in very good condition with low mileage will sell it.

The IWC bit is a bonus.

If it's any help there was one for sale on Auto Trader earlier this month, from a trader, with similar mileage, and it was around £17k if I recall correctly. No mention of the watch.

The colour was unique, as was the interior colour, the wheel colour and the clocks are different, but aside from that it's just a normal CLS 55... albeit one that came with pretty much every single option!

That is of help... just not what I wanted to hear... ;)

I think I'll try it at £20,000 and see what happens.

Howmanyleft suggests 382 CLS55s on the road in UK but no indication of the special edition numbers: How Many Left?

To be blunt, Mercedes will have dreamt up this 'limited edition' to help shift the last of the CLS55's, hence it won't show as a separate model to a 'standard' CLS55.

The OP has joined the forum on a fishing trip looking for a buyer at £20k, and even though Bobby has advised him of a similar one for sale recently for £17k, he's still going to try it at £20k.

Which says to me that he knew all along how much he wanted for it, but he'd just join a Mercedes forum to dangle the (rather overpriced) carrot.

Edit: https://mobile.twitter.com/thecarguru is this the OP?

Well done SPX... you have me well and truly figured out! ;)

Yes, I am on a fishing trip... but I'm just fishing for information. I genuinely have no idea what the car is worth or much about the numbers of UK cars. I also have no idea about the mileage, owners and condition of the car that was up to £17k.

I'm not expecting to sell the car here, but I'm very grateful to all the help I've had so far from everyone... well, nearly everyone.

I'm also grateful for all the positive comments on the car - I appreciate that the IWC was not much more than a Merc marketing exersize, but it is just gorgeous!

It's nothing personal Ashley, I can tell from your blogs etc that you're a car nut which is ultimately what brings most of us to a forum, but I think if you'd been a little more upfront then it wouldn't have looked so underhand.

Putting to one side that you are a car trader, Bobby Dazzler has posted that he saw a very similar vehicle up for sale for £17k (with no mention of the watch), yet you choose to ignore that advice and say that it's worth £20k; this would lead most people to think that you know what you value it at already...;)

Nothing personal taken... except when you call me a car trader! ;)

You're 100% right that I'm a car nut... and I'm a little embarrassed that I've only just joined the forum, especially as I've had a W124 wagon and a W116 450 SEL in the not too distant past.

Would be really interested to know more about the £17k car Bobby Dazzler saw. Certainly wasn't ignoring the advice, but that car could have been an 8-owner shabby 100,000 mile example for all I know. If it was a similar car then I will absolutely not be expecting £20k for mine! I just find it hard to believe that the IWC is worth no more than a standard CLS55... I would expect to pay £17k for a really nice one of those.

...wouldn't I?

Some good advice as always on here and should certainly help you.

For what it is worth then I (yes this is my opinion and it will obviously be different to many others) would pay more for this car than a standard CLS55. It is an even more exculsive example of this model and adds a bit of individuality over and above the more "normal" CLS55, albeit almost purely aesthetic. If it is in really good condition, has good service history to go with it's low miles and ownership, then for me it would be worth considering at circa £2k-£3k over a similar normal model.

The car was not put together as an after thought by MB at all. It was talked about in late 2004, early 2005 and was ready to be ordered in April 2005 which is pretty much in line with the first CLS55 cars sold.

Try it at £20k and see how it goes, if there is someone out there that is after a low mileage, well cared for CLS55 with a bit of individuality that may command a higher premium longer term, then you may get a bite. The other thing to remember is that these 8 year old cars are now getting harder to find in great condition, good service history and low mileage.... If it doesn't sell then drop it in price, you'll soon find out what it's worth and it may be that it ends up going for £15k!!

Nice car and good luck.

Jules.
