Next step up, power wise?

CLS55, 911t, 3dr Cosworth, MT 10.
My next car will be a CLS55 or maybe even an E55.

What would be the next step up power wise and what sort of cost is involved?

The usual route is to check the IC pump is working properly (live data logging) then have a Eurocharged remap along with a smaller supercharger pulley fitted.
Depending on how far you want to go, an 83mm pulley and map would give around 540 -560bhp. A 77mm pulley and map should see the car reaching 600bhp.

Cost wise is dependant again but a map and 83mm pulley is around £700 and the 77mm + map is closer to £1k. A new IC pump is about £100 + fitting if you don't DIY.
Those figures are ballpark only and Acid at MSL is the guy to speak to when the time comes. He often gives good deals on map/pulley packages.

This thread is worth a read regarding tuning the 55k engine.

Cheaper to buy a car that has already had this work done.
Here.

Thanks for the links. Unsure why but I did think the Silver 55 was up for £10k must have had my beer goggles on :)

Unless you plan to come to track and play with your potential new to you, new car, just buy a bog standard 55 if u can find one with FSH, absolutely no point in modding an already very fast 55 for any other reason. you will never use the OEM power on the road long term without losing your license. Just makes me laugh to those that mod their 55.s and never bring it to track, whats the point, use it on road, raises the insurance, raises the chance of lost license if such individuals are inclined to test their so called big gain cars, such a waste of car and money. This said, come to the track... then it may might be worth it, potentially lots of fun to be had, although this car will need to run in its own group at santa or Vmax now, the new modded 55TTs have amazing power, brings me back to, buy standard and enjoy the road experience, it is a great car.

I see MSL mentioned a lot, but if I have the right company (MSL performance, Old Bsa Building, Armoury Road, Birmingham, B11 2PP ) then the company was filed as dissolved in Feb this year

MSL PERFORMANCE LIMITED - Overview (free company information from Companies House)

Do I have the wrong MSL?

I'm posting having performed the above due diligence because I'm interested in a remap for my CLK63 and the company was recommended.

Leading on from above, if the OP has yet to even test drive a 55k, a standard car will blow you away, they are that quick off the mark.
I've had mine nearly 5 years and have been close to doing something to mine power wise on a few occasions, then I'll give it a blast and think, nope its quick enough.

That is the right MSL, but I think Acid (co owner) is best positioned to comment on any company policy. They are still trading AFAIK.

Test drove a few over the weekend and loved them which is why I've also included an E55 on the list now.

In answer to ricky - fair statement and I see where you're coming from. I've not done any track days for a few years now but I'm usually on some lovely roads in Europe throughout the year to open it up.

Exactly my thoughts...we must be in a minority here AM , owners of standard E55's as from the factory...hang on that includes any exhaust mods ...are you still in this group AM or are you a loud lout Lol ;)

Also agree with Ricky, spot on , whats the point of all that power if you cannot use it, I sometimes feel this about mine & its standard. I guess in Scotland Ireland you may get away with it but who wants to ruin the fun when/if you get a flash & out goes the adrenaline high to feel the flood of absolutely gutted feeling of fines, points & if really pressing on a ban...Eek No a standard E55 raises' a smile & blood pressure enough for me!

Re modifications, I agree that trying to find the top speed will just land you in trouble with plod, but you can never have too much acceleration imho.

Besides, each to their own :D

Website link here, has been like this for aeons although it does list their phone number.

I'm going there for some tuning work in a few weeks and have spoken to them several times on the phone and paid a deposit, so am pretty confident they are trading!

I'm a loud lout! Had my secondary cats and resonator removed 3yrs ago at MSL. Sounds much nicer on throttle.
Mine isn't totally standard as I have a carbon rear diffuser and lowering links fitted but engine wise its untouched.

Every now and then I think I'll map and pulley it, then draw back:D

No, not even about 'top speed', standard E55 will get you a ban able drive without any great effort at all, if the cars modded, without doubt people will go for it just to pump out their chests with their 'big BHP' car, until humbled by another high performance car, with an insane driver at some point no doubt, at which point, do you then reflect having chased that guy down, to how stupid that was, and the potential repercussions of such actions, do your mods if it is a thing to do, but take it to the track. My own E55 is heavily modified, rarely driven it on the road these days, but it does go to the track now and then, to take in the awesome power of the old girl, and have some fun, more so with a few of the guys here that still go out to play, and enjoy the company for the day.
I furthere come back to my previous comment, if your not track or Vmaxing, it's absolutely a waste of a good car, and the out going modding monies, to which such expenditure will not be seen back. I also raised the insurance increased to such modding, thats not great fun sucking that up either, so all in all, let alone keeping your license, but what ever is done, modded or standard, just make sure you have some fun with the car, as to surely, thats what it is all done for, and hopefully justifies the expense keeping these ageing cars on the road.
All, the best with your car.

I don't race other cars as there's always a faster one out there, but do enjoy the acceleration. Tracks don't interest me but as I said, each to their own. Totally agree that as long as you get enjoyment from it, then that's all that matters.

lowering links fitted.

How do you find the ride height i.e. is it equal on both sides with the links or does it vary depending on whether you're parked on a level surface or not?

Reason I ask is mine's been lowered via STAR and the height of the rear seems to vary - even parked at the kerb can cause one side to sit higher than the other!

Seems pretty level all round Ben. In fact I'm going to raise the front a touch as I think its too low.

You might benefit from having the levels rechecked. It should sit evenly all round.

Ah OK thanks, will ask MSL to have a look when I'm there :)

FYI, mine sits similarly to yours height-wise (on level ground at least.)

Power is addictive, don’t have to break the speed limit but can get there quicker than others :-)

Thanks, at least I know what the difference between a standard pulley and an 83mm is now

I looked at a standard CLS55 - didn't get to drive it though and went passenger. Nice enough car that's had some money thrown at it recently on front suspension components but also needed a few more £'s thrown at it. Spec was basic with just dynamic seats. Scuffed wheels (1 recently welded up), loud wind noise from passenger window when up, dash wood done in different colour to the rear centre console, only one key. No movement on price and more than others advertised for the same year/miles.

The second was an E55 with the 83mm pulley, remap, pretty coloured graphs, very good spec, keyless go, HK system, s/roof, dynamic seats, etc. Took it out on my own and had a good 15 minute drive of it. Got back and having a quick look around ready to pull my wallet out and the guy (trader from home) comes out and tells me the person who'd looked at it the day before has just transferred a £1k deposit into his account :(

Both pulled great with plenty of poke. Going for more power? Not sure yet although once you've driven your own car for a while you get used to and the urge for more can happen. I have found a very cheap, high mileage CLS500 local to me that's not advertised yet which is tempting but I know I'll always wonder what if when I see another 55 on the road. I guess the hunt continues .....
