Nice 300 electric everything

Its white with no leather :(

Clean and tidy for sure but if its an ex Police car then the mileage seems rather low. Wonder how long it lived in Saudi?

Cheap W124 with usual problems (rusty wings, faulty cruise, air-con, broken c/locking) plus a few others (misfire, shocks need replacing, ABS fault).
Leather would have been nice and white will hurt its value but it'll only make few hundred quid anyway and you could buy worse cars for that money.

Well its better than the 190 Paul? was looking at :D
Genuine sportline  low miles could be a good buy, Ian you could get it as a coutesy car...:bannana:

The owner is watching this :D :D and its not me either

Climate Control
Is that true?

originally sold in Saudi Arabia
Yet RHD and UK spec?

out of MOT
Why not get it done?

Central locking does not work
So fix it.

Aircon doesn’t blow cold
£££

cruise control did work but I haven’t used it in months
Assume not working, then.

Pulls like a train
You mean it accelerates really, really slowly?

would benefit from new HT leads
So fit some.

sport/economy function
Standard, not sport. Misleading?

has housed my little dog hundreds of times
Nice.

ABS light sometimes stays on from a cold start
Electrical problem or ABS fault, surely? Not convinced by the explanation in the ad.

Windscreen has a crack
£££

manual mirror adjuster has broken off
Another minor annoyance.

One of the rear shocks makes a very slight squeak
So they need replacing.

Redeemed! :)

VIN WDB124***********
Chassis 1240312B215031
D'oh!

Apart from that, it's fine. ;)

I wouldn't touch that one with a barge pole Ian. All electrics is great as long as they all work :)

Fixing the aircon adds £300 to the price along with all the other niggles.

I'm also getting slightly concerned that the earlier (late 80's/early 90's) W124s are coming to the end of their "economical" life. With rotten rear subframes, chassis rails etc perhaps the W124 isn't as bullet proof as we've all thought. OK they last longer that most cars but it's getting to the stage where buying one is becoming more tricky.

Buy a later one - you know it's worth it :)

Lastminute you missed the best bit...

where you will find a whole host of 124 owners, including a few who own this exact model, along with many experts/mercedes anoraks! They'll tell you the truth about these.

yeah, this one's fu**ed!!!

Come on, I am still waiting for a member to own up?? :D :D

Is the gearbox anygood? wanna break it??;)

At 99p you just buy the whole car and use whatever is good then break the rest.. A plan..

Just looking at the pictures again...

THERE'S NO BONNET STAR!

Interesting also that the instrument cluster has the word BRAKE instead of the (!) symbol.

My 230E is (a couple of months) older than this one and it has the (!) symbol.

Facelift was 1992, wasn't it?

Edit: But a lot changed in September 1989.

I think between 89 and 92 there were a lot of changes, the "slab sides" appeared in 1989 so that could kind of class as the first facelift, the new bonnet lights and grill came later.

It's reasonable to assume that all the cars fom that era will have slightly differnt specs as they were proably made from the parts bins - just like BL in the seventies, whatever fitted is what the customer got :)

This 300E-24 looks better. Not Sportline, though, and there's a lot less detail in the ad, so there may be just as many problems - it's just that the seller has chosen not to mention them...

The ad claims auxiliary heating, too. Wouldn't that be visible in the engine bay? It's not mentioned in the options list.

Is self-levelling suspension another potential problem area?

The red one is crazy money. I bought my 300E-24 sportline 7 years ago for £2500!
The white one is fine as a cheap runaround. So, the aircon doesn't work. How many cheap cars even have aircon?
W124 parts are cheap and plentiful.
I'd rather drive that than a £500 Mondeo.
