Nice 300 electric everything

I don't know, I spend £12 putting my very honest ad on ebay, listing EVERY fault (could have hidden HT leads and ABS, easily) and it still gets ripped apart on here :D

I bought it with all the faults for a very cheap price and knew I was only going to run it for a year, so it never made economical sense to fix any of the niggles.

I put enough money just in petrol into my other cars - this was merely to do the 80 mile round trip to work when the train isn't an option and to run about in.

A good service 5k ago and the front pipes sorting were all it needed to be a runner for a year - and loads more besides. I have been ultra critical in my ad to avoid the nit pickers and tyre kickers.

And at it current £1.20 who can argue? :D I'm planning what to spend it on right now.......

As said above, a powerful 124 for a few hundred quid isn't a bad option to run about in. It's still in good nick and just really needs the HT leads replacing to run spot on - away from the 99% it runs now.

The red one is crazy money.
The Buy It Now price was a little optimistic, wasn't it? Top bid was £625; needless to say it didn't meet its reserve.

But it's because you were so honest and detailed that we were able to nitpick so much. (It's a very bad habit of mine - I hope you weren't offended. :o) As I suggested, the red one could be as bad, or worse, but we'd have to find out for ourselves because there is next to no detail in the ad. Which is the better way to advertise? I have no idea. It's just that I think I'd find it difficult in principle to attempt to sell a car that I knew to have easily-fixable faults and that a buyer can't even drive home.

Up to £510 now...

It takes more than a critique of an ad to upset me ;). I'm a copper......

Honesty is the best policy if you want a buyer to turn up and then pay.

The faults simply don't affect its drive and I just wanted a runner to, er, run! I have a few other cars that I spend cash on - just bought a mint 1981 Audi GT Coupe, by the way.............

To fix the bits on the Sportline would probably cost a few hundred quid and I probably wouldn't get it back in the final sale, in my experience of ebay (lots of cars bought and sold - mailnly old mercs), so I didn't bother. I'll let the new owner decide whether or not to spend their cash on it. As an old car fan I can live without the comforts we now all take for granted!

It can be legally driven away as long as the new owner has an MOT booked on the day of purchase, is insured and buys the remaining tax.

It's just about at reserve and there's a guy coming to look on Sunday who has a TE 300 24 Sportline, a 300CE 24 Sportline and a 320CE Sportline and wants to complete his collection! He even loves white Mercs and doesn't mind the odd dog hair ;)

Had lots of interest - and lots of dumb people asking questions!

Cloth interior in very good condition no rips, scuffs or stains

That's good to know, I wonder what the marks on the front seat are then :D

still too expensive - who's going to offer him £500 :)

Got a decent price for it :D

A year's use and sold it for a good bit more than I paid for it ;)

You're going to have to wait a loooong time before it's worth more than you paid for it..

I'm not really counting on that happening ;)...

I do regret selling off my W116 though, I should have kept it, would now have made some good money!

Only if not turning to dust!

Nice one, was it?

I've dabbled with a few of these and they are lovely - they just fizzle to nothing though!

Now, what can I spend my spare cash on...............

It was in quite good condition when I sold it, everything working and good exterior and interior condition. Wasn't in its original colour (white) as the owner I bought it from had it resprayed in a burgundy colour. Also, didn't have aircon.
