No blue efficiency here.

I would say its my biggest disappointment of my C250cdi after 4.5k miles over 4 months, I generally potter around town which does include morning and evening traffic but i never see more then 28/29 mpg from a full tank. Single trips in the morning can drop as low as 24 mpg.

Over a month this can include some steady 50 mph dual carriage ways and a road driving.
I'd be disappointed with those figures in your car too. They're virtually the same as I'm getting from my C350 petrol, and I never potter!

The same trips in my Manual 2006 Honda civic 2.2 CDTI would see an effortless 36/37 mpg!

Interesting that the 250CDi is 20% worse than the 2.2CDTI. On paper at least they have the same urban and extra urban fuel efficiency.

Just to put this mpg thing into perspective, my s124 e300 multivalve diesel non turbo estate once managed 45mpg at around 56mph all the way to Brecon, Wales on the M4, and has regularly achieved 40-45mpg on intercontinental tours loaded with vast amounts of luggage and humans. Admittedly driving a bit like my mum. But it goes to show that after 20 years or so... I wonder what an s212 e220 BE cdi would achieve steady state on the motorway at 56mph? Of coures the s212 would be around £25k compared to the s124's £3k

similiar to Steves car but a saloon. C220 cdi 5g 57 plate
64k on the clock
last week trip Manchester to Birmingham showed 52.3mpg on the display. Not driving slow or caning it just keeping up with the traffic. Quite often get early 50's on straight runs to Derby or glasgow etc from Manchester.Reduce speed a little and it creeps to mid 50's.
Best ever on the trip computer was 64mpg over a 50 mile trip but i was driving a constant 50 mile an hour.

quite happy with the overall mpg and does seem to have improved as the miles have been added on.

Brother had a 59 plate CDI blue eff and he ran it to 95k before end of lease and on average his saloon C220 usually out performed mine on average 6 to 8 mpg more.

Factor in the extra performance and 10mpg you'd get and the progress is there to see

Very true and add size to that.

Cars are too big and heavy but they are safer.

Thankfully car makers are trimming back the fat. Not to 1993 levels as my car weighs more than a 1993 E class.

I am hoping to see a massive increase with my impending euro trip.

There's something wrong with that. I'd get it checked out.

I'm struggling to do worse that that in a new SL350.

Interesting. My C250 has only covered 2500 miles, but I have to struggle to get less than 30mpg on my worst trip (5 miles from cold, slow stop start traffic). indicated 75mph on the motorway it does about 52mpg. The OBC display is about 5% optimistic.

Overall about 42mpg real.

Now I'm concerned, Im wondering weather the change in Injectors has had a negative effect.

The car is fully serviced. 66K, 2010.

I've covered 24k miles in my C250cdi manual from new 15 months ago. City commuting for about 25% of the time, the remainter mostly motorway and A roads. Over first 20k miles my OBC read 60.1mpg from new, then the dealer changed the injectors and re-flashed the ECU which deleted my history (grrrr). Since then, I've averaged 61.4mpg on the OBC which I'm hoping will improve slightly if/when spring arrives. Accurate brim-to-brim from new per Fuelly below so OBC is about 7% optimistic.

Hmm blue efficiency, just don't fancy owning or driving a car that includes a tank of piss on board :D

Unless you empty your bladder before each journey, you already do! :p

Just a thought, who changed the injectors? I know some of the latest technology CDi systems the injectors need to be programmed to the ECU, each injector has a etched code which has to be manually read and programmed when fitted, not sure about the Mercedes system but certainly with some others.

There was a change from piezo injectors to solenoid ones in the BE. The solenoid is a more reliable system.

It was Mercedes that changed the injectors, my assumption is that it was done properly. As its out of warranty, not sure what to do really....

It's reassuring though. I'd hope the newer engines were more efficient than old.
