There was a change from piezo injectors to solenoid ones in the BE. The solenoid is a more reliable system.

I know each injector was calibrated for flow this was the information that was held within the "coded imprint", with the much tighter control on fueling now even a slight difference in fueling from the original injector can have an influence on running. I would assume that both types of injector require precise calibration.

Not sure if it helps but on my facelift W204 under warranty/recall(?) the main dealer fitted new Bosch injectors to replace Delphi plus fuel pump housing and pump wiring loom and an ECU flash, presumably to match the new injectors.

Yes, you've been changed from the piezo system to the solenoid one.

The matching is because each injector releases a minutely different amount of fuel, so the ECU needs to know the measured flow so it can adjust for each injector, certainly does on the Ford system and I cannot imagine Mercedes being that much different considering all the manufacturers use the same suppliers!
