I am having the same problem transferring plates. I made the mistake of following the procedure as I understood it.
1. Buy new car
Enlist the help of a friend in the trade
2. Send of new keepers supplement with correct documentation for both vehicles to get number plate transfered.
3. Previous owner sent of rest of V5
4. New log book issued.
4. DVLA send paperwork back because new V5 issued so need this to continue process.
5.Send new V% plus original paperwork back with friend from dealership
6. Recieve letter syaing can't transfer as later log book has been issued.
7. Phone number on letter and speak to guy at Swansea who says the serial numbers I give him are from the latest V5 and Shrewsbury should know this as have same data. (Shrewsbury say latest log book is dated 29/01/09, Swansea confirmed ltest is 26/01/09)
8. Take deep breath
9. Tomorrow dealer friend is going back to Shrewsbury armed with telephone numbers for guy in Swansea........ I live in hope!
From what my friend in the trade says they seem to take great pleasure in not communicating despite your phone number being on the documents.
He had paperwork returned because 'Mr' hadn't been ticked on the application. A simple phone call and the person at Shrewsbury could have ticked the box and the paperwork processed.
