Noisy heater controls

The heater controls in my W202 work 100%, but when I wiggle them or turn them, they sound like creaky plastic, which is exactly what they are. Some nylon&rubber lubricant has helped a bit, but they are still a bit creaky. I have had them apart and the workings are lovely and clean...any ideas?

They are held onto the dials by a 'C' shaped clip, I guess over take its started to stick slightly.

What ever you do, dont start trying to pull them off, they will break and you will need to get a new one from the stealers.
