Hello everyone,

I have a 2001 S320 CDI which was running fine until i left it parked up for a number of months, upon trying to restart the car it would not fire up although the engine did turn.

I called out an ex Mercedes technician who ran diagnostics which revealed 'open circuit injector 1'. He then took out the ecu and found it had some moisture inside of it, how this happened i am not sure. I left ecu to dry out in open and the mechanic then started banging on about how one of the resistors in the ecu is a bit rusty/a bit green looking? and that i should get it replaced by a company who repairs merc ecu's. i don't think he knows what he is talking about as the car was running fine until it was left parked.

Should i fit the ecu back and see how i get on? alternatively can anyone shed some light on what could be wrong with the car??

Many Thanks For Reading
Fasar

Looks to me like you have an issue with the ECU. The car would not start if one of the injectors would not be working (be it the injector, the wiring or the ECU). I think you should have the ECU fixed if no other issues were diagnosed.

Quite often cars run fine until they fail. The failure cannot be denied even if the car had been running fine a long time before the issue. ;)

I have had a look at the ecu thoroughly and have noticed a broken pin where the centre ecu plug connects, I am not sure if it was broken before, as the mechanic took the ecu away and said the pin was rusty...perhaps that could have been the issue?? however I have contacted a company called ECU testing and gave them the bosch part no of the ecu and they said they can repair/recondition for 250+VAT

HI every1

a quick update, i got the ecu checked and tested and I have been told that it is beyond repair due to water damage. Does this mean that i must buy a brand new ecu or can I get a second hand one and get it coded??? any help would be appreciated?

It is a new one only

Sorry I didn't get a chance to update, but I managed to get the ecu repaired for around 230, and the car started up straight away, now I got other issues to fix lol THANKYOU to everyone who helped me on this thread
