Well I've bought my dream car, a facelift 2000 CLK 320 soft top in silver, and I love it! I know they're not everyones idea of a dream car, but I've wanted one for years.

This forum has been invaluable in helping spot what to look for in one of these cars, and I think I've got a good un. FSH, and no rust... really!

Thanks to recommendations in this forum, it's booked in to Staithes in Gateshead next week to look at the jumping out of gear issue. I'm pretty confident I'm looking at ATF top up/change and probably mountings.

After that, i'll tackle the duo valve (no continuity on passenger side solenoid) and the air temp display. I'll be sure to post how I get on.

Then it's just polish, polish and more polish (I hope).
I'll add some pictures once it's clean.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Congratulations, it sounds like you've got a beauty there!

Cheers, I think I have. It just makes me smile every time I see it. Its good now, but I can't wait to see how it drives once it's fixed up.

Hello
Welcome to the Forum :thumb:

Hi and welcome to the forum. My neighbour had just got the same car but in black. They are a lovlely looking vehicle.

Now I'm another geordie and welcome to you and welcome to me. I live in Chester le Street and would like to know where Staithes garage is in Gateshead just in case. Are they independant but knowledgeable about our dreams?

Staithes is in Dunston behind that mock Tudor pub ( can't remember the name). Phil worked for MB Newcastle for many years and is top draw as well as being very reasonably priced.

Phil's mentioned so often here that he seemed the obvious place to go. Staithes seem pretty busy when I tried to get booked in, but I guess that's a good thing.

Hello Geordies!

From one newbie to another, if you are stone chip free you have found the one. Mine's got a few and is in the 'brilliant silver metallic'. which may prove tricky to diy..Still, that's part of growing old and being british.

If only. Just spent the day polishing it, and there's a couple of chips on the bumper and a nice crescent shaped chip on the bonnet. It's only small and not down to the primer, but as mine's silver too, any repair will be dead obvious.

Still, didn't find any rust, so it's the one.

Good luck with yours

Picked up car from Staithes garage after it went in for auto gearbox problems (jumping out of gear after sharp acceleration, snatching low gears).
Pit aside quite a budget expecting the worst.
Car was ready by lunchtime, and what can I say other than these were good guys working there.
Checked and cleared codes. ATF 2 litres low, so filled to correct level. No leaks from ATF box.
Guessing it's been filled incorrectly at some point.
And the cost of all this
A mere £ 47!
