I have two stone chips on the bonnet of the car which have started to go rusty.

If I want to maintain the Mobilo do I need to get the repairs done at a MB approved paint shop?

If I didn't use an MB approved paint shop will Mobilo still be unaffected should any other body panel start to corrode inside out?

P.S

I'm sure this information must be contained somewhere in this forum in one of the many Mobilo threads but after doing a trawling through a few search results my eyes started to sting!!!

If you want Mobilio to cover the damaged area then yes you need MB to repair it...if rust occurs anywhere else other than the repaired area and the repair wasnt done by MB then yes that area will be covered but not the non MB repaired area....

Huh ..hope that made sense...

I think it goes like this.

Stone chips are not covered, but you can touch them in yourself, if you had them re sprayed, say the whole bonnet outside of a MB network , then should a paint fault arise, MB would not want to know anything about the bonnet.

Thats it really

Thanks guys for the two model answers!

I'd better get it done properly and play by the rules.

If the recent in influx of ‘big brother’ ‘police state’ threads is anything to go by then there is probably a drone plane, CCTV camera, hidden micro chip or secret policeman in a trench coat and pointed black hat sporting an evil moustache monitoring the state of my paintwork and reporting back to the AMFS (anti mobilo fraud squad  ).

….yes yes it’s the lowest form of wit, I know! :D

Why have you let them go rusty? Be better to dab any old stuff in them (even clear lacquer) asap after chipping to stop them rusting.

I haven't had the car long and its only just become aparent that they are starting to get rusty, albeit only two tiny little rust spots.

Our great British weather hasn't allowed me enough time to give the car a good clean and wax since I've had it which is when most minor paint defects left themselves be known!!

Yes and each time you wash it you find another,, thats life.

Re touching in, Lightly T cut the chip surface, flick off any loose rust with a pointed object, using the MB or Halfords touch up kit, drop a tiny amount into the hole, leave it an hour at 15-20c and see if it has shrunk, then do the same again. leave for a few hours the T cut the chip and it will wipe off the surrounding paint like butter as its soft. with Metalics put one more drop in and after a few seconds wip it to smudge it with your finger, this will bring out any metalic effect and be a good match, just leave it now for 24 hours and T cut off again, then wax over,, its a waste of time trying the clear coat as its not the same material and it will stick out
