NTG4 w204: disc error during maps update

Hello guys,

Some days ago, I was performing the maps update of my NTG4 to version v11 2013.
At 58% of the update, the system requires the DVD #1.
I take out the DVD 1b, and insert DVD 1a, but...... the comand says: "disc unreadable".
The same DVD 1a, which I have used to start the update procedure.

PANIC!!

I do all kind of reset (from the comand menu, from eng menu, removing battery) but without good result.

The situation:
- NAVI still requires DVD #1
- In AUDIO section:
Disc function (option blocked)
Music register (blocked)
Pcmicia reader (blocked)
- the VIDEO section seems to be blocked
- I cannot set all the LANGUAGES. It works only English and Danish. No German, French or Italian.

I went into the eng mode, the diagnostic function says: "DVD drive /error disc".
DVD: NG (error 03010000)

I burned also something like 100 DVDs, with different SWs and DVD-burners.


I made a test:
- remove the HDD, and restart the Comand
- the NAVI function disappear
- Pcmicia reader is now working!
- Disc function enabled, but it cannot read any kind of CDs/DVDs (burned or OEM, new or used, video or music).... how this is possible??


In your opinion the failure is on the HDD or on the DVD-reader???
Have you any solutions for my situation??

I'm totally desperate! .... It's possible to repair this Comand.

Also... you are using original MB discs.... not copied/burned DVDs?

I tried also to burn different copies, but the result is the same: The system is in stall.
No NAVI, non DISC reader

I have updated my NTG4 (2008 S204) twice, using genuine MB DVD's both times and keeping the ignition live so Comand did not shut down at any time during the update. On both updates, DVD1 installed in about 1 3/4 hours, Comand then asked for DVD2 - which installed in about 30 minutes. Job done.

The fact that you started with DVD1, then went to DVD2, then it asked for DVD1 again, tells me something's wrong with the DVD's.

You need to talk to Comand Online, as said above.

I think your DVD reader in the COMAND is not reading disks. (Not sure why it needed to go back to DVD-1 though). Try a cleaning disk.

The only time we have seen NTG4 get destroyed during a map update is when people use copied disks. We have seen this same stuck thing and resurrected it with a combination of Star Diagnosis and clean genuine disks.
