Number plate LED`s

Each to their own & all that but to my eye those are too bright, unnecessarily bright, & actually a distraction for motorists behind you.
I'm with you on this one. I considered them for my C55 but after looking at various cars wearing them I decided against fitting them.

They just don't look 'right'..hard to explain really. But not for me thanks.

They look no different to those found on a brand new Mercedes or BMW, nice and bright like mine :thumb:

Will try upload a pic of mine later

Precisely :thumb:

IIRC the LED number plate lamps on modern cars are 3200k... or 4300k? Can't remember which but, I purchased some in the range of the lower number and they look no different to a new car

The only difference you'd notice is the housing, some are frosted and some are clear. If you get the right ones/right balance they really do look factory. I got super lucky with my pair after trying many that failed, but the lights I got I cannot find for sale anywhere. They weren't expensive either I think only £30 delivered!

I`ll post a before / after when fitted :thumb:

Well, that didn`t go very well! I dropped the boot lid trim (couldn`t remove completely cos of the damn warning triangle holder)...got to the lights but then realised there`s more to it.

Another quick look on youtube and I realised the chrome trim and the plastic panel which surrounds the lights and houses the boot release needs removing too!!! I managed to pop the chrome trim off but the rest wasn`t so compliant so knocked it on the head. I`ll bin the lights and just buy a pair of LED bulbs instead..10 minute job then and no risk of damage :thumb:

You can still do it from within the boot, but it's easier removing the lock trim inside and dropping the chrome outside, first time it took me half an hour. By the second/third time after I replaced the crap ones with the lights I have now, it takes 5-10mins. Super easy

I couldn`t see any way to drop them out from inside the boot as there`s a tab which stops it popping out.

I didn`t want to drop the plastic surround as it was held firm where the boot release is. Like I said, the inside trim wouldn`t drop off completely cos of the triangle mount so it was impossible to see what`s at the back.

Yeah I`ve seen those 2 :D Handy for bulb changes but not for the whole unit.

What are you trying to do? To get the entire number plate lights out, is just a mixture of both videos, lol

Yeah that's what I replaced, and from watching them videos you still can't change them? :dk:

I was probably 95% done but I was worried about wrecking the plastic surround and also it seemed pretty solid where the boot release is :(

Won`t that just defy the object of changing them?

You would still get the non-yellow colour temp of an LED, but yeah I see your point ;)

The plate is yellow anyway so the difference reflecting white light or yellow light would make little difference

Persevere, mine didn't come off easily at all and it's hard to judge where the tabs really are. Once they're off you'll wonder what the fuss is about (they are a pain in the be-hind)

My advice is use something solid like a flat head screwdriver for leverage, but for love of god put something between it and the paintwork as you will easily scratch the paint

i used bulbs from HIDSdirect, they've been ok so far in my C350 Coupe (c203), i got the 36mm 3x SMD ones with a heatsink fitted on the back, and seem tight enough fit (some others i got first didn't fit)

I did originally want to use the whole unit option, but i couldn't find any to fit the coupe... hence why i have a set of new ones for a w203 saloon sat in their boxes... as i found out to my cost, they're not the same!... oops
