OAP s and driving licences

Are you sure. I thought you had to be on them to live there 😇
I’ve never taken drugs and don’t intend to start, but I’d like to live there. On the other hand, my wife - who comes from the least densely populated country in the world - says that it’s too remote!

Retesting the sheer numbers of drivers over the age 70 would be a logistical nightmare, and the cost would be punitive.

I don't think it would be that big a deal to mandate an eyesight, theory, and hazard perception test every three years after 65.

(I have the view that all drivers should be tested every 5 to 10 years).

I think at the moment we 'get lucky' in that the majority of older drivers tend to get more cautious and reduce their mileage as their capabilities are impacted by old age. So the numbers may be large - but the number who are seriously problematic is lower.

Knew it was a mistake to vaccinate the over 65's, spend more on the NHS, AND to spend the last two decades building safety into modern cars.

Not only would it solve the "old drivers" thing, it would reduce the pension funding burden on the young.

Typo: I think you meant 65, not 25.....

Failure to wear glasses (especially amongst the Ladyees) or to get prescriptions updated is common across the ages.

BTW: the over 60's drive more and further than most age groups. Being not able to drive for pleasure is another curse of the working class, who are either stuck in work, commuting on public transport to work.

Crikey Mike, have you just got up ? 🤣
Oooh, gosh, is it really? Oh, I really should get up now.

(Only kidding, just back in from a quick 9 ( 7.30 tee time ). Too hot to play later....

Just do the walk and not spoil it carrying sticks around 😇
I need it to keep my memory & commercial skills in good shape.

Drive, 7 iron, wedge, chip, three putts. "That's a five."

How was your game today? "Great ! 36 points! Even birdied the 17th" (Nonsense: 22 points and lost two Titleists)

😱 what are you on this morning 😇

I must admit that since reaching the age of 60 my mileage has plummeted! I think I'll only do about 40000 miles this coming year..... 😎

Do you have a servant to carry your golf bats around?

After several years driving 50/60k a year in a sales role in europe and Scandinavia, I do find 12k/year akin to a Sunday afternoon drive.

I don't think 70 year olds need have any fear of a compulsory driving assessment being implemented.

There are almost 6 million over 70's driving and the DVLA only conducted 1.67 million driving tests last year. Even to test 80 year olds they would have to double the current number of tests taking place. It's not going to happen when they can't shift the backlog for people learning to drive.

Young people have suffered enough from old people being favoured by government without the current 16 week wait for a driving test being made worse by compulsory testing of the old.

Talking about this with Mrs B today as I was navigating Cornwall’s ‘catch both wing mirrors on the hedges at the same time’ roads, her main comment was that I drive much more carefully and patiently now than I used to.

I put it down to not having to get from A to B by a certain time, rather concentrating on getting from A to B safely.

Having said that, I don’t necessarily hang about, currently nursing 3 points from an SP30…
