Hello everyone,
I was getting annoyed with the rust on the airfilter box cover and took it off and resprayed it but there was so much oil there? Where did it come from and is it normal? there is one hole in the middle and around it there was this soft material which from the oil has peeled off and now it is without. What is the soft material there for anyway? thanks

i would reckon the oil came from the breather pipe it would the heat of the engine and oil mixed together flows back into the car through the filter box

Over filled with oil

It is either blocked breather or worn engine causing crankcase compression - how many miles has the car done?

148k , there is a hole there in the middle, is that the breather? how do you unblock it if it is blocked, if it is worn engine > worn piston rings when opening the oil cap when running it should blow due to the pressurised crankcase but it doesnt only hot air comes out..

Give it a good clean, run it a few days & see, if it stays clean it was prob overfilled at some point.

I noticed this on my car right after I bought it, I cleaned it out and it hasn't come back since.
