As some of you may know , I live about two minutes walk from where the Metropolitan Police Historic Vehicle Collection is kept.

Well not any more. Cutbacks mean it is being moved to Hendon , and today was the day !

At 11am they all departed , with outrider escorts.

Some of the number plates are worth a pretty penny , particularly the one on the Morris Minor.

Anyway , some pictures of them leaving for their new home :)

They are rented to tv companies etc and pay their way pretty much.

Sometimes it's nice to have a bit of history isn't it ?

They do have an SD1 , but didn't get a picture. I believe their SD1 is the one that did the liver run

I somehow doubt they'll be keeping todays Hyundai iWhatevers for posterity. I wonder if they all made it under their own steam.

Thanks for sharing. Do you know if the cars have any history attached. Like who may have sat in the back seat? That sort of thing.

Thank you Howard.
Is there anyone willing to own up to the fact that they remember all these vehicles in every day use? I remember bells being used on emergency vehicles.

Actually , if you look carefully , you can see the SD1 in the picture of the Morris Minor !

It is behind the old police landrover , partially obscured by the outrider motorbike.

I should perhaps add that it wasn't i who took the photos and as such cannot claim the credit. :)

Thank you Howard.

Think the Wolseley's a bit before my time, certainly remember the rest.

Here are a couple i took that aren't in the original post

2.5pi and SD1 at Chestnut Sunday in Bushy Park last year.

Lovely old things.

Not a copper to be seen when you need one. And then 20+ come along all at once.

I don't remember any of them

But I can imagine it being interesting seeing these on the move in real life chasing whatever car's were around at that time.

I can even remember taxis that you put your luggage in the open platform bit by the driver...

And the coal-man delivering with a horse and cart....:eek:

I remember the SD1s in service onwards. Only remember the Austin 1100/1300 (civilian version mind!) from burning the back of my legs in the very peak of Summer.

However, I was overly interested in cars from a very early age so I am not that old.

Honest guv.
