How on earth do you commute around London?
I'm not knocking the place as I was born there, but I had the most horrendous trip today involving the M27/M3/M25 to get to Enfield N London. Doing it in pouring rain didn't help.
The M25 is an absolute nightmare and to describe it as the UK's biggest car park is not far off the mark.
What should have been a 2.5 hr trip ended up just over 4 hrs, and the same coming back. My eyes are popping out of my head from concentrating in spray and heavy traffic.

But getting around Enfield, especially when my Sat Nav decided to play games wasn't fun. On leaving at 5 10pm, I drove 2miles in just under an hour!:wallbash:. Just total gridlock that got me wondering, do you leave the car at home and use the tube/bus? It would be my worst nightmare to have to commute or even drive for pleasure in London now. Hats off to London residents, I don't know how you stick the place. If I didn't work there, my house would be on the market and I'd be gone.

As above Waze really helps, but the M25 is a real carpark and I’ve found nothing can help really... I normally sit in it for hours too. :(

I walk to work, and drive to Suffolk on weekends. When people abroad say how bad the traffic is, I tell them they have no idea what bad traffic is!

I “drove” ho ho ho, from North Kent to Maidenhead today. Route planner = 1 hr 40 mins. Reality = 3 hours. Total time in car 6 hours. My bum hurts, my head hurts and I feel like I have achieved very little, despite enjoying an excellent face to face meeting.

Which car do you use day to day Bruce? The X5?

I’m 44. Never been to London and have no wish to go. I’m not sure as to why people would put up with that degree of congestion.

I was considering driving to Enfield today to look at a car but the rain in Wiltshire was very heavy and I decided that being in front of a warm fire with a supply of fresh Espresso was more appealing!

I spent 40 of my 71 years in London. I totally agree with you. I now only drive there to get to one of its airports. I laugh when my neighbours here in Cambridgeshire complain about a ten minute traffic delay on their way to work.

It used to take us 1 hour to do 7 miles. On a good day :D

Ditto!

I would never drive in to central London, either train or drive and use the Underground / rail network where possible or not go at all.

Went into Covent Garden today (to see “All or Nothing” about the rise & fall of The Small Faces -excellent show) took the tube in, no one in their right mind would drive in!

If you are heading here, drive to a tube station or overground station which will take you into central, save yourself all that stress and getting ripped off for parking!

It's all about timing, gleaned over 20+ years. I could get to Bruce's in Kent in 30 mins, usually, No NAV required.
I find the Bristol ring road to the M32 / M4 is consistently FAR worse than the M25 / M40 / is A406!
When I used to go North, all the M6** routes were similarly terrible.

Is it worth doing what Australia does and that is if you end up with a conviction without an Australian Passport they can and do export you to your home country, not to be allowed back any time soon without special permission.

De population starting with the lowest contributors to a healthy society may well be the answer to improving productivity...??
