I am thinking of using Yahoo Messenger to make phone calls since we have broadband connection. Can someone recommend a good and reasonably priced external microphone that I can use with my PC and where I can buy it.

Thanks.

they are all much the same, plug them in they work. The only problem with them as they are condeser microphones they are prone to feedback (horrible howling sound through the speakers) if you have them anywhere near your speakers

I've got a Labtec headset (phones and microphone) which get's around the feedback thing and it's excellent.

You could get a USB bluetooth transmitter for the back of the pc and bluetooth headset, then use the headset for your mobile phone as well.

Thanks for the reply, Andy_k and Pluggers.

I will do a search for the Labtec headset on the net later on for stockists and prices.

The bluetooth headset is not much use to me as I hardly use my mobile phone. There is no reception for the mobile phone on the tube ; when there is reception, the noise is so loud from the train and fellow passengers that I often don't hear my phone ringing.

I find that a friendly punch in the jaw usually gets them to quieten down a little. :-)

That might be a bit difficult as I am a bit on the small side. :(

I've just installed a new VOIP software PABX in my office with 10 outgoing lines. We're using Plantronics noise cancelling headsets which aren't cheap at about £50 but they are the dogs. We tried 3-4 cheapies then got these and the difference is incredible. Check out www.telecoms.co.uk and others. We're using the USB model, it installs as a sound card in it's own right so you can use your sound card for other things (in our case for the speaker ring tone which would normally not be available when a headset is plugged in).
