Any ideas where may be a good place in the East London/Essex area to get the work done?
Also, im not sure if a recon engine is the way to go?
Unfortunately i will be selling the car after it is fixed.

Maybe you could advertise it 'as is' as a project for someone? Might do quite well with the enthusiasts?

Will

Ollys a smart specialist.

If selling it , secondhand engine from breakers .

Such things also show up on eBay

Whats it worth as it is?

How much is the engine fitted?

Whats it worth with engine fitted.

If theres nothing in it sell it as it is and save the hastle as least you will have no test drives to worry about...

:)

What mileage did it manage before it went pop?

sell it, A new engine from merc is going to be extortionate well over what the vehicle will be worth. cant you get it reconditioned or jus buy a short block and swap all ancillaries over.

Surely a rubber band can't be that expensive:confused:

How long has the Smart been around now? Must be a fair few in Breakers etc. Have heard some recent horror stories about then engines letting go in as little as 50k. Great, a return to 1950's engineering!!

The engines are toilet.

I have had them wear out at 18k

I have done 5 now here. I use a great smart engine re-builder.

From reading the various Smart car forums I wonder whether also the cars are given a hard life by their owners?

Touch wood my wife's Smart car with 40k miles (burning no oil) will last 10-20k more, but when buying it I did budget for an engine rebuild at some point.

I think it's more of a case that they were intended as something to potter around town in, yet I see plenty on the motorway day in day out doing big mileages

Will these fit?

Now that the subsidy might come in, is it worth anything? A friend in Germany with a minor problem on his 2 years old Touran, 60K kms, was offered nothing by a dealer for a trade-up.

Exactly what I thought they were designed for!!

We had a guy at work who had one who used to boast about doing 90+ on the motorway all the time!! Guess it didn't last too long either....
