Following my various threads, which started as an E220 cdi vs E320cdi debate, I have now done the decent thing and bought a C55 AMG.

Picked her up today, and had a good 2.5hr drive home. She goes like the clappers, and nothing has fallen off yet. Absolutely lovely to drive. Relaxed when you want it to be, and an animal when you push on. I was surprised to see that over the last 900 miles, the car has averaged 29mpg, although only 23 on my journey home.

Most certainly needs a bit more of a V8 soundtrack though. I'm taking the car to Olly at PCS based on the various reviews I've read on these pages, for a service next week and a general health check and might well also come away with a couple fewer cats.

Photos to follow in due course.

Again, thanks to all those who offered their knowledge, opinions, and expertise which greatly aided my decision making process.

Dan

well done Dan, good choice!

Brilliant news Dan, I'll look forward to the pictures.

Thanks guys. Couple of quickies. Excuse poor quality. And car is filthy too!

Welcome to the C55 club. They are friggin brilliant cars aren't they?

They are indeed great cars. Huge grin factor. Bags of value for the money.

Seconded. One of the most underrated cars of the last decade. IMO.

congratulations on your AMG experience ..

it's like a drug, you will want to have 1 always :)

Mileage 57k
Not sure what is std spec on these, but does have command, folding rear seats and sunroof. Last owner put on 13k miles mainly driving between here and switzerland. Bodywork is excellent, no dings at all. Quite a few stone chips on the bonnet as usual, and a tiny bit of rust on the rear inner wheel arch...is this normal, and would the MB bodywork warranty not cover that as it has FMBSH?
Very happy, although still slightly apprehensive about my trip to PCS in case they find anything wrong!

I'm not sure about the warranty but I don't think it's too normal to have rust on these. Maybe someone else can tell you. I certainly don't have any. I would get that fixed as soon as possible if I was you. It's the cancer of the car world!

All the things you've listed sound like normal kit inside the car. I've got heated seats, electric everything etc.

Brilliant! Quote of the year for me, right there!

Mega car mate and Olly will look after you. I have his decats on my 55 and it sounds the business. You'll find yourself driving around with the rear windows open alot..

Very nice Dan, Glad your happy with it, they are very good cars as i'm sure you know by now.;)

Regarding the rust, I've not seen or know of any, mine has got no rust not even chip stones.:D

Great Choice Dan,

Good to welcome a new C55 owner to the forum!! I had Olly do the first de-Catt exhaust conversion on my C55 last year. The car sounds fantastic & isn't too loud either (it's actually 2 decibels quieter than a standard E92 M3). I'd be happy to demo it if you're passing north London anytime.
I'd recommend Olly have a look at your car first & then you can decide on the works you want done. As BenzedUp & Coggers have already mentioned I'd recommend getting the rust sorted out first though. I've also never seen a C55 with any rust?

Thanks for the kind offer....in fact I'm planning to get the exhaust done this Thu all being well. As for the rust, it will be sorted, and it is a tiny area, just on the inside of one rear wheel arch, prob no more than 0.5cm or so. Overall, the bodywork is excellent, and I am very fussy.

Absolutely loving the car.... I took out a work colleague for a quick spin today as he asked so nicely. He's got the new BMW 640D with I think about 315hp and over 450lb torque, so his isn't exactly slow.

Found a nice A road and planted it to overtake a car, quite literally he just started swearing uncontrollably. The C55 is just monstrously fast.

I am still catching myself saying "jeeeesus" under my breath whenever I have the opportunity to open her up. With my old e39M5 it didn't as I recall take that long to get used to the power until it felt "normal"...I guess this happens whatever you drive, but I have to say it may be some time until the C55 feels like this to me.
