Hi folks,

Well it seems to have happened!

I gone and got myself and SLK320

I pick her up at the end of the month.. I CAN'T WAIT!

52 plate, 39k Jasper Blue........

Its JUST what I wanted...

Its going to be a very long three weeks!

Couple of questions, while I'm here a general motoring question:

I'm in the UK and live in London but at the moment work in Cambridge, I'm up there for most of the week, with regards to insurance, where do I insure the vehicle? London or Cambs.. I don't want to put the 'wrong' thing, but Cambs will a tad cheaper than London!

Also, can anyone recommend an insurer, my previous car had a guaranteed price in the event of a total loss (you have to think of the unthinkable!)

Is the installation of a tracker worth the £400?

Is it worth adding a years Merc dealer warranty for £600?

I'm not worried about the cost, more that its worth the money that I'm paying.

I'm also after retro fit parking sensors, I've been quoted £600 for front and rear...while not 'cheap' I'm thinking best get it done by a main dealer to have it done properly.

My only other question is about the audio... I'd really like to 'beef' it up a bit with a sub in the back and an amp, and the doors etc, nothing stupid, just 'nice and warm' but with a boot that small I don't want to take up much room! suggestions?

Thats about it for now... I suppose I've just joined a new club! (well on the 28th)

Can't wait..

Hi and welcome - I think you will find the insurer will base the premiums on where you live....

Good luck with your car - post pics on here when you have it:D

Welcome - good choice of car ;)

Try Adrian Flux for the insurance. Parking sensors - why? Maybe on the front as it is a long nose - but the back is short and stubby enough not to need them. Put it this way - I manage ;)

Warranty - depends how well it's been looked after etc. It's a gamble but for peace of mind could be worth the punt. Make doubly sure everything works as it should roof, seats etc etc.

I wouldn't bother with the tracker tbh and you should declare the car 's address as where you live. If you lice in split locations that what you should declare.

Enjoy the 320 it's a crackin' car. I adore mine but watch your right foot - see how you get on then maybe think about a Sprintbooster   :D

Welcome to the forum. Nice sounding car too!!

where do I insure the vehicle?
Which is your main residence, eg do you own one and rent one, or do you spend more time at one address than the other?

Also, can anyone recommend an insurer, my previous car had a guaranteed price in the event of a total loss (you have to think of the unthinkable!)
Worth shopping around. Don't dismiss the big-brand insurers. Directline for example can be very competitive.

Is the installation of a tracker worth the £400?
Some insurers may insist on a tracking device. If the cost of the tracker is offset by the savings on your insurance then it is worth it. If not then it might be worth thinking carefully about whether you feel comfortable paying the premium.

One thing worth knowing if you go for the Tracker branded ones is that you can pay up front for 3 years cover, and after year 3 it's renewed at no charge. It's also worth knowing if you pay each year, you can still ask them to make it free after year 3. ;)

Is it worth adding a years Merc dealer warranty for £600?
The Tier 1 warranty is incredibly comprehensive - pretty much the same as the new car warranty!! Tier 2 (for cars 60k+) is also good but no quite so comprehensive.

Given the cost of repairs on an MB, and the complex hood mechanism, it may be worth considering until you know if you've bought a lemon or a peach.

Good luck with the new motor!!

thanks for all the replies folks! As I expected this place is a wealth of information and feel that your a friendly bunch!

:)

my 'main' address is in london, that IS where I live, but due to my current job I spend mon-friday in Cambs and return on the weekend..

I have to ring round, I've tried all the web sites, best quote so far is around £600 pa but thats with the car only registered to my london address. I'll ask them about what discount I get with tracker... after loosing a Porsche a few years back.. I think I might just go for it!

Regarding parking sensors, i just love em, its not that I can't drive! But I like the re-assurance of the beep! :) Sometimes you just can't see that small wall or something and I'd cry if I scraped the bodywork!

I'll see what I can haggle at the dealers when I go in to sign..

I'll definitely take the warranty.. 2 years isn't bad, but they have said it won't cover friction parts.. which means it could get expensive if there are issue with the auto box ( my last car the box died.. very £££)

Thanks for all the help.. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go on!

I'll post pics once I've picked her up...

oh one last thing, how common is Japer Blue? I've not seen any in this colour and I've been looking now for a LONG time!

It's a nice colour ... not that common ... I just happen to have a V6 auto M-B in Jasper Blue (with Parktronic ;)) parked outside :)

well i've been looking all over for an SLK in a darker blue, after owning a black car I said never again! shows up the dents n dirt far too much! (not that the SLK will have either!) and silver, as nice as it is and it was my second choice, but this one was fate I think!

Oh.. more questions.. if I pay for dealer fit parktronic front and rear for £600 does that mean I get the interior LCDs too.. cos that would be kinda nice!

9 days to go!

anyone want know someone that wants a rather nice MX6? I spent a fortune on it... but she now has to go.. great cars, much under appreciated..

But somehow, I think the SLK will be just a 'little' better!

:)

hey folks... I've run an HPI and DLVC check today.. and I'm rather worried..

:(

colour has come back as SILVER!

and I was told no of owners 3 and the HPI says 2 (that may be cos its 'prev owners)

but i'm v worried about the colour mis-match!!!

I spoke to the dealership today (the is an officila Merc dealership) and they say the car according to MB is Jasper Blue!

I've requested the VIN and V5 to be emailed over on monday to complete my HPI check, but I'm rather worried.

This is an MB assured car!

Any thoughts?

It should be fine m8, your doing it right, HPI and dealer car cant really go to far wrong. Any doubt, have a indy inspection done also.

Well I've finished the HPI check and the only issues is the colour mis-match.

The V5 / HPI have the car as silver

I've raised the issue with HPI and the dealer and they both seem to think that all that needs to be done is to tell the DVLA?

I just can't quite get my head round the fact that no one 'noticed' nor the fact that no one seems 'bothered'

I really want this car, but am I being over cautious?

I'm thinking about getting an RAC inspection done, but @ £250 its not exactly 'cheap' and being an assured car from MB then.. its 'been' checked!

hmm, why can't these things be nice n simple!

well, its been an interesting wait... been royally messed around by just about everyone, but friday is almost here.. its going to be great! I've got a 120 mile journey to start.. (too much M25 in there for my liking but hey!)

I'll post some pics when I get the chance.. but I may be having too much fun!

Ya mentioned worried a few times !....I would be worried too. Walk away there are hundreds for sale...its a buyers market....do not let love rule your heart..we do it with women all the time but there is no excuse with a car..good luck..:)

i checked it all out very well and the HPI report and VIN correspond exactly to the car. I have also spoken to HPI and the DVLA and they assure me that this is an entry error and that it happens a lot on the log book and that it will be corrected in my V5.

MB have the complete history of the vehicle on file.

the VIN / Engine / equipment list all match without issue.

Plus its a MB main dealer, so there is some legal recourse if it came to that.

Anyway, its all done now.

And I'm terrible with cars ruling my heart...

better with women! :)

Its the other way around for me,, and do enjoy the drive home,, I will never forget the day I brought mine home, I even fell asleep inside the car the first night in the garage.:)

I have given up on the woman front  used to do very well though :)

Good luck.

It sounds like the points of concern have been ironed out. I once had a brand new Tigra which was recorded as being a Cavalier on the log book, I had some fun trying to explain that to the traffic police one afternoon.

I'm with you on the colour though, Jasper is a very nice shade and would be my choice next time round. Cant wait for the next installment :D

Portzy.

If you register with Quidco, you can get £70 back on any policy taken out with More Than, who worked out cheapest for insuring my SLK32 AMG - £35PM. Although I live in a low risk area, this is cheap!

Yes Good Luck, hope it goes better than my MB pick up (who made me wait an hour while the Salesman completed a sale, even though I had an appointment GRRRRRR).

Looking forward to the pics in due course.

Enjoy - hope the rain holds off!
