Planned your 2017 road trip(s)yet?

Having a big birthday this year we are going - Manchester-Dublin-London-Barbados-Toronto-Manchester. Should keep us busy for a while

Currently on the Grand Tour.
Home to Luxembourg, 1 night stop
Luxembourg to Innsbruck, 1 night stop
Innsbruck to Florence via Stelvio Pass, 3 nights stop
Florence to Rome, 3 nights stop
Rome to Lucca, 3 nights stop
Lucca to Avignon, 3 nights stop
Avignon to Disneyland Paris, 2 nights stop
Disneyland to home.
Planned this trip a few years ago but SWMBO work circumstances scuppered the plan. This year I have a big (60) birthday & we have 30 year wedding anniversary, so why not?
Thanks to those who chipped in with advice 3 or 4 years ago when the original plans were made

Just be careful with the ZTL zones in Italian Cities, especially Florence. The fines are horrendous.

Yes, I was there last year. What I did was book a parking spot on line and they registered your car. They included the cost with the parking charge.

Current plans are to take Eurotunnel to Calais. Calais to Switzerland, stopping off at the Lakes for a couple of nights. Then on to Austria, Ironman for me, sound of music tour for her. Week there then back home via Stuttgart and an AMG private factory tour. Should be good!

9 days in the picos de europa, on the ferry home

Garaged at Florence & garaged now at Rome so I hope we are covered for ZTL

Two weeks to our 2019 Road Trip.

Starting in Dudley (for the Black Country Living Museum) and via an overnight halt in Horndean (for an Indian even better than Yadgar) on to Hayling Island (Hayling Seaside Railway, Tangmere Aviation Museum, Hayling Bygone Festival)

Crossing to the Isle of Wight for many, many things. Then back across the water to Southampton to join P&O Arcadia for a week's cruise.

Home via Telford, for the Telford Steam Railway, Ironbridge, Blists Hill Victorian Town, Bridgnorth cliff railway, RAF Cosford.

Not exactly adventurous - it's all places we've been to before - but it gets us away for just over 3 weeks...

I've been to quite a nice Indian in Southampton, might even be able to find the details if you are interested.

It's opposite the gay bar.

Next door to the pole dancing club? That one was excellent a few years ago, but we're not stopping overnight in Southampton this year...

Off tomorrow from Leicester to Ashington, North of Newcastle, meeting up with around 23 cobra replicas for a tour around Northumbria for five days, then Julie and I are heading over the pennines for a couple of nights in the lake district before heading back to Leicester.

I thought I knew it well but I didn’t recognise the view in the photo. Great spot. The toll road is fantastic, but a little hairy in a big car, when another big car is coming the other way.

Haha yeah it's pretty scary if a car doesn't come the other way! Steep drop and just about the same width as the car. Fantastic road though and the views are worth it.

I must had taken my E Class along it but it seemed a hell of a lot narrower and trickier this year in a rental Alhambra.

Not much happening this year unfortunately, but plenty of time to be planning next years.
Thanks for bringing this thread back to the top. My children we talking about our favourite European road trips over lunch - we’re usually away driving around Europe at this time of year. Happy days. Until the next time...

Snuck one in before lockdown, Leeds-Glasgow-Glen Etive-Kielder-Leeds 814 miles, As soon as its lifted will be on for another.

We're not exactly planning but still hoping that in July or August we'll travel by car from LT to UK to help our daughter move into University. It's an 1,800 km journey that we've done so many times over the past 20 years and there's nothing much to plan apart from an overnight stop and a ferry crossing.

In the meantime we cannot plan anything other than the next visit to the supermarket. The interesting question is will we carry on as we have always done or will we think more about where and how we travel? For example, will I want to spend a night on the ferry or will I cross through the tunnel in the safety of my own car, even though it adds a few hundred kms. My guess is that once we believe the threat has passed we'll revert to old habits, always assuming that the services we used in the past still exist.

We were driving to Budapest the scenic way in June but now postponed till next year

Thought it was April Fool but that was long gone. Oh ! Planning a trip well yes.

Sometime in the near future I plan to take the missus a lovely run along the almost deserted A77 down to see the infamous Whittlets’ round a bout.
On this trip the sound of beeping horns will be missing as I will have plenty of time to be in the right lane.

From there we will pass the myriad of empty car showrooms then venture down to Sainsbury in Prestwick where I will stop to have a little nap while the boss queues up to purchase some luxury items like fresh bread, milk and maybe even one of those nice packs of fluffy paper.
Rest over it will be a fast run home avoiding any road block with the boys in blue (bless em ) enquiring why we’re out in the panzerwagon.

Oh! For freedom of this dreaded virus and to get out in the fresh air with the SL

Very good friends of ours are from Klaipeda (sp?) and often say we should visit. Is the drive/ferry/drive a good one? We’re in Cambridgeshire.
